Foreign Birth Certificate - can I translate for my family?

A family member of mine is going to need their birth certificate translated to apply for a US passport. Can I translate for them since I am bilingual and can format the document exactly the same?

I know that USCIS does allow self-translation with a certification, and the US passport site only require notarized statement certifying the accuracy of the translation.

Does anyone have experience with this? Thank you!

Not sure what a" foreign US Birth Certificate", but any USA birth certificate will be in English.

If you are asking if a family member can translate a document for a foreign passport, with the information you've provided, no one can tell you, but in any case, is probably out of scope for "VisaJourney (Your IS Immigration Community)"

Thank you for the catch, I updated the title.

I read in other topics here of people's success in translating important documents for USCIS, but none about US passport application. That's why I want to ask.

"Foreign language documents should include a professional English translation. The translator must provide a notarized statement of the accuracy of the translation and self-certification of their ability to translate."

If you are a " professional" translator it might work. How much money will this save, and how much time it will it cost if your translation is rejected is something to consider. Of course, the other consideration is that "professional" translations are often pretty bad, and require lots of back and forth to perfect.

If the applicant has a Consular Record of Birth Abroad, this is moot.
