Hi there,

I have my visa interview tomorrow and I'm v nervous! I'm sorting through all my documents and wondering a few things. Firstly, I have never received a letter by post (it says on numerous checklists to bring an appointment letter), will the email suffice? And am I permitted to bring a certified copy of my birth certificate rather than the original?

Many thanks!

Many if not most embassies and consulates use e-mail because even in developed countries the postal system (e.g. Canada)  is really really bad. Print the email.

You must bring a photo copy of your birth certificate and your original.  Do not surrender your original.

Always ensure to have multiple copies of everything. Even get 2-3 official birth certificates as you'll need one again for AOS in the US.

Will do, I've got three official copies of my birth certificate (on top of original) and saving one copy for the States

First off, congrats on your interview and best of luck!!

Second, you should take your originals but have 2-3 copies of each original with you. Print off the email with your appointment notice for your interview...it is just proof that you have an interview scheduled for that day and time. :)

I agree. Very easy to do in a developed country. In a developing country not so much. Hence my admonishment to not surrender her originals.

I asked my wife’s lawyer about this, especially since her birth documents consist of affidavits and a statement of no birth record from the regional health department. She said that USCIS and the consulate just need to see the originals but one only needs to surrender photo copies.

She will need the original birth certificate at AOS interview and perhaps removal of conditions and N-400 interview.

A certified copy is fine as long as it has the original certification (stamp, signature, embossing, whatever) on it, not just a photocopy of the certification. You don't need multiple copies or photocopies of it in LONDON. They give it back.

K1s do not get an appointment letter like spouse visas do. You got a confirmation showing your date when you booked the interview. Bring that.

I'm a K1 applicant. My fiance has his interview tomorrow at UAE embassy.

As for bank statements, I have the most recent from March 2019 - April 2019.

Do they look at chat logs?

We have call logs and some video call screen shots.

Do u have to give them wedding plans? We are planning to do a court marriage and then planning to do a ceremony at a later date when it's convenient.

Is that okay?

Any advice is appreciated!!

Pls help.

It can vary on what you need, this is a UK sub forum so the required documents here may differ if you are going via UAE

Did the embassy not give you a list of things to bring ?

At this late point, and with no one else adding anything as yet, id suggest he takes everything you have - official letters, bank statements, evidence of relationship, medical results, any forms used in the process - as I cant tell you what is required at UAE. At this point its probably better for him to be over prepared than not have something he needs at interview.

Maybe someone can give you a better answer before he has to leave for his interview, until then this is the best advice I can give as im no expert on the K1 process from the UAE.

I know that would be fine for London, again UAE I just dont know, id assume its fine, but I think ive heard that sometimes they look at whats culturally typical for certain things. Sorry cant be of more help.

I have no idea why, but I got the dreaded administrative processing. Anyone got any ideas as to what on earth I should do?

Oh no! Is there a written reason they handed you?

I just got the standard green piece of paper about 221g. I feel so deflated, they didn’t even ask for any of my extra evidence 😬
