I want to add that at times we have seen them say they can't approve you yet and ask for something or it needs AP. Maybe just maybe your fiancee hear we can't approve and went blank on hearing the rest. I find it odd they kept the passport if she was outright refused.

That’s the bit that doesn’t make sense to me, either. What business does the embassy have in keeping her passport if they are not pursuing her visa application any further?

This thread is very near and dear to my heart since I too am in the process of obtaining a visa for my fiance, (and her children), in Colombia. However, you can toss me in with the last 2 poster since I find it odd they kept her, a citizen of Colombia, passport! From what I have read here on Visajourney, if it is outright denied, they return it to you when the interview is concluded.

Si exactly. se is a great lady and is very respectful and works for a living, has a income and is always happy. she is crying now and we both are struggling with this, i am a retired veteran honorable, she is a therapist. no criminal history, we lived together 4 years in colombia. no reason to deny.

they took her records and passport and said they cannot approve it now, but you will receive the packet and passport, in 5 days. no real reason or answer. just said 5 days will be delivered. really strange and not the 3 ways it can be processed, approved, denied or administrative. I a so angry now, because they give us nothing to work with. now we wait and then hopefully we can move forward, but all in all. this is a disaster right now for our relationship, because we are stressed and confused and blaming each other. so be sure to demand some kind of awnser, when yo get there, because this is just wrong. you can write me, anytime, I will give you all the knowledge i can. happy easter

mikebob - you won’t get any argument from me.

It is unjust and nearly everybody on this thread is trying to help you with a practical solution to the problem our government has given your fiancée and you.

That the embassy kept her passport makes us wonder.  Do you know for sure that the visa was denied? Perhaps the embassy has not decided.  Perhaps it will want more information.

When I see words like “ receive packet and passport” that tells me they plan to approve the visa.  The packet refers to a sealed envelope which must stay sealed and is opened only by a US CBP Officer at point of entry.

Hang in there.

@mikebob, what does the online status say about the case?

Thank you for your service.

Insulting and screeching at people trying to help you.... your service doesn't give you a free pass to do that.  All anyone here wants to do is figure out a) what happened; b) what you can do next.

@mikebob, it really sounds like maybe your fiance misunderstood.......they kept her passport, and they said "packet" like @Going through mentioned.......it is possible, they are going to approve it....a lot would be known if we knew the status as shown online.

No one here is judging you, we're asking questions because it helps us as members to try to help you determine IF it has been denied, and possibly WHY.

Happy Easter to you as well.

It's understandable that you are immediately frustrated----the entire immigration process step-by-step can be frustrating as well as unnerving.  And there's definitely a "learning curve" when it comes to getting everything needed to be done/figuring out how the process works when bringing family members to the US.

What does the online case status say?
