I-134 documents query

Hi all,

I have a couple of questions about this final stage of the process.  I will be arranging my final interview shortly in London and we were planning on using some pay slips and the most recent tax return form as evidence, perhaps a letter from employer too?  Do these documents need to be originals or will photocopies do?  Another question, if a married couple are joint sponsoring (both work) can both incomes be added to totals or would they have to complete a seperate I-134?

Thanks in advance

Keith

For a written/signed letter, I always like to use the original. If it's some kind of print out form from HR, that's fine too. Photocopies of pay stubs, tax return, W2s, etc are fine. London will typically approve on one proof so don't knock yourself out proving 3-4 different ways.

Typically one person sponsors in London...the fiancé, or mom, or dad for example. Does one person in the married couple make enough on their own?

Hi, thanks for your advice.  Yes, both make enough but they have two children and I thought that might impact on total income of one person.

I do own the property that my fiance lives in the US and I do have some savings(not lots but some) - will they take this into account?

For a family of four plus immigrant, you're shooting for $30,170 (100%) to $37,712 (125%) to qualify. If one makes that much, then it's okay for just one form. You can take the joint tax return which will show the family makes more. The form I-134 doesn't really have a process for family members to join monies together like the I-864 which is for your Adjustment of status.  I guess do two forms if neither reaches the threshold on their own.  It's not formally laid out in law for I-134 and fiancé support. London used to have on their website how to do a DIY affidavit of support. It's a subjective decision and the officer just has to be convinced you will not become a public charge.

Sure, you can bring g proof of that to show as well to help convince the officer that you won't become a public charge. It's somewhat informal really and anything goes. London is not overly fussy about the I-134.

That was really helpful, thank you.

If you use your property, maybe take the property valuation from the tax rolls. I know in my state, that is generally available online as public record on the county website for the appraisal district.  Not sure if all states even have property taxes. Or get an appraisal from a realtor.  London allows self sponsorship if you have enough savings or assets yourself.  There is no published figure...again up to the officer. I've seen people report they self-sponsored with $30-$50k, so that's all the concrete info I have.

Photo copies are fine.

Wuozopo has given you all the numbers as that bloke is somewhat of a genius!

But with regards to copies, unfortunately I ended up having to take only copies (Royal mail, you fail again) of both the I-134 and all supporting evidence unfortunately. But thankfully it wasn't an issue at all and with every piece of evidence we took (Pay stubs, w2, bank statements, letter of employment, bank letter all that jazz) they looked at the W-2 and the letter of employment and that was it :) No questions asked.
