I am at the nvc stage sent away the affidavit of support my wife last year income tax was above 40 k current income is way more because of promotion etc . Montreal consulate requested we have a joint sponser . So today I paid a bunch of money to find out what went wrong why a joint sponser well a few things last 6 months of pay stubs showed a gap because she took un paid time off . 2nd is because depends on the consultant they been asking for joint sponsers even as the primary sponser is way above the minimum requirement.  The rules keep changing lucky we found this out now because apparently people been finding out at the interview that they need a joint sponser .If your last 2018 tax is low even getting a job this year wont matter u will have to wait . U find a co sponser make sure its rock solid and 6 months of solid work pay stubs at the time of affidavit of support filing .

You can submit the visa.  If you still need time to get things together you can move the interview back.

If you don't qualify based on assets you can find a joint sponsor.

Getting the domicile setup is not much more than proving intent.  You can show that you might be staying with friends, doing air-bnb, etc.

Thanks again Paul & Mary.  This was a great relief to hear all three statements.

To prove intent of domicile, I plan to have my friends take a picture of the room we will stay in, and a letter from them saying that we will live in their home when we arrive and stay there until I have a job.  I will also create a formal document saying my intent to stay at my friend's house.  Does this sound sufficient?

When my husband and I moved to the US, we stayed at my mother in law's house. She wrote a letter stating that we'll be staying with her indefinitely. As for proof of domicile, what we submitted were my husband's bank records, unexpired driver's license, and a job offer letter contingent upon background checks, etc.

That's good to include, but I personally would suggest adding other items than a place to live. The are some examples in the NVC wiki under "Domicile" (even though you aren't going through NVC due to DCF, that section provides good examples).

Hey All,

I completed the Affidavit of support and it asks for my current salary which is about 40k.  I have had a yearly salary of between 40-50k over the past three years, but my contract ends in June as we are moving on.  I am now a bit confused.  Does this mean I meet the affidavit of support requirement and do not need a friend's support because I currently have a job and I am paid well above the 125% poverty line?  I thought I didn't because my contract will end in June.

You must complete an affidavit of support and you do not have to have a job.  In lieu of a job you do have to show (very liquid) assets exceeding 3X the required income based on your household size.

Or......get a joint sponsor

I thought it was 5X, 3X would be pretty good!
