I still didn't see anything that addresses welfare - maybe I missed it. I'm not actually hung up at any one detail, just completely confused by the difference in the white house memo.

The White House will give whatever misinformation necessary to get what it wants. It's not the first time this happens with this White House.

As will conservative think tanks.

I didn't go through the whole bill, but the amendment to section 212 (a)(2) 8USC 1182 (a2) specifically states that those who are affiliated with criminal gangs (and it can be anyone simply suspected of such) are inadmissible. So I don't see where it says that they are eligible for Z visas.

What are your sources?

Illegals are crushing public health systems in the US today even though they are technically not entitled to a first damn thing. What would make anyone think that that will change for the better when they have a right to be and work here?

Although undocumented immigrants do contribute to health care costs, so do many legal immigrants. People who come here and become citizens petition for their elderly parents to come here as permanent residents, and guess what? They get free medical care. Just in my personal experience I have met dozens of older people who have no intention of living here, they simply come here to get all their care for free, then return to their home countries. They have never worked or paid taxes here.

I'm not saying that we shouldn't be providing health care to these people, but illegal immigrants are far from the sole burden on the system. Many of the people who are contributing to expanding health care costs are your own relatives that you feel you should be able to petition into the country without restriction (and you and millions of others will continue to be able to do this unless the proposed changes go through).
