Rights You Won't Have Under S.1348

Those in favor of illegal immigration pose the choices as those between mass deporation or mass amnesty in order to narrow the discussion. But their bill, S. 1348, Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2007, sets forth provisions that allow for illegals rights American citizens and legal immigrants have no access to. There is nothing in the bill that adds to or expands on the rights of American citizens or legal immigrants. All it does is take away.

For example:

Illegals who apply for the Z visa are given legal status within 24 hours of filing even if their background checks are not complete.

Do legal immigrants not get the same consideration? Will you stop waiting weeks/months/years for security checks to be completed? NO!

Illegals who are given a Z visa are not required to pay back taxes on their earnings.

Can you get this deal for yourself if you owe back taxes on your earnings? NO!

Taxpayer funding is required to pay for lawyers to defend and process illegals who are potentially eligible for the Z visa.

Will your tax dollars pay lawyers to help your beneficiary get help for legalization? NO!

Any illegal swept up in a raid who is determined to be potentially eligible for a Z visa (been illegal since before Jan1, 2007) will be released and given government assistance to obtain legal status.

Anyone among you fighting a deportation after coming here legally being offered this right? NO!

Illegals who qualify for the Z visa are automatically eligible for welfare and other social services support.

The petitioners of legal immigrants are required to pass financial tests and enter contracts that serve as evidence that the legal immigrant will not become a public charge; public assistance is off-limits to you.

It is estimated that there are 30,000 illegals in involved with violent gangs in 33 states in the US. Each known gang member is eligible for Z visas.

Another form of terrorism that does not foreclose eligbility for US citizenship.

Amnesty will be given to employers who knowingly hired illegals and even provided them with fraudulant or stolen Social Security numbers.

Can you knowingly break the law and get amnesty from your complicity? NO!

Taxpayers will not only pay for illegals in this country, but will also provide aid to Mexico for education and health care for their citizens with the intention of providing incentives for them to stay in their own country.

Will your and your SO's health care and education be free on either side of the border? NO!

Overturns the federal prohibition against allowing in-state tuition to some classes, but not to all by creating a nation-wide exception that gives illegals and z-visa holders a right to in-state college tuition that no citizen has.

Equal protection under the law for law minders is a quaint notion? NO!

These are just a few of the provisions that will take effect the DAY AFTER the bill passes, and more are being revealed every day. It will pass if more don't rise up in opposition to this underhanded sell out of our citizenship. Hopefully it won't pass, for it is no more than an allowance for unequal protection under the law, a salve to excuse lawmakers from exercising their duty to protect our borders and our sovereignty.

The constituancy supporting these rights are big business, the US Chamber of Commerce and certain ethnic/racial supremicist groups. Legal immigrants and those sponsering them are the logical and natural constituancy to oppose this giveaway, but you have to let your legislators know your views to protect your rights! If you don't use your voice, you will lose your voice! Don't be a chump!

These are actual provision in the "comprehensive immigration reform" bill being considered at this time, much of which has been drawn from other attempts and from the 1986 amnesty act. No matter what it's called, it's the same rehashed ####### and it smells worse every time.

I know, but S.1348 is not the controversial bill that everyone keeps talking about.

Compare it with the real thing and you'll see that it's very different.

S.1348 is not the bill.

As bad as it is, the actual bill is much, much worse.

I don't understand how any American or lawful immigrant in their right mind can support this nonsense. The actual and flat out open rewards for those that refused to get in line over those that did alone should generate an unparalleled outrage across the country. Taxpayer funded lawyers for those "potentially" eligible for a Z visa? #######? I'm sure the AILA lobby formulated this clause...

well if my SO came here on a B2 visa, overstayed and filed directly to AOS he IS given pending status once the application is received regardless if he was illegal (due to overstay) at the time of filing. pending status = in the system (legal) until denied.

just a lil sidenote as this "24 hour immediate status" seems like its completely different from any other journey. its not really.

Pending status is not legal status. No one's application for a visa granted legal status within 24 hours. Not mine, not yours. It is waaay different. BTW, the discussion is mainly about people who came with NO visa, but are being given one SOLEY BECAUSE they were always ILLEGAL. That's the rub!

Only if you change the rules to fit your and your crony's personal self serving agenda. This legislation is all about narrow neo-con and ultra-lib agendas. Everybody else gets stabbed in the back. Remember...this is a bi-partisan screw job going down here.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

24 hours? Rrright.

Not really motivating to try to get everything right and the way it should be when it can be done easier... come and stay and never go.

And bringing your dog is so much easier than bringing your spouse too.

Just curious, what is the source for this information?

I'm confused because, for example, you state:

Illegals who qualify for the Z visa are automatically eligible for welfare and other social services support.

and the White House states: (http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2007/05/print/20070518-4.html)

FACT: Z visa workers are not entitled to welfare, Food Stamps, SSI, non-emergency Medicaid, or other programs and privileges enjoyed by U.S. citizens and some Legal Permanent Residents.

You state:

Amnesty will be given to employers who knowingly hired illegals and even provided them with fraudulant or stolen SocialSecurity numbers.

and the White House states:

FACT: Before the Z visa and temporary worker programs go into effect, an Employment Eligibility Verification System (EEVS) must be in place and ready to prevent unauthorized workers from obtaining jobs in the United States.

FACT: Employers will be required to verify the work eligibility of all employees using the EEVS, and all workers will be required to present stronger and more readily verifiable identification documents. Tough new anti-fraud measures will be implemented to restrict fraud and identity theft.

FACT: Employers who hire illegal workers will face stiff new criminal and civil penalties. For example, the maximum criminal penalty for a pattern or practice of hiring illegals will increase 25-fold, from $3,000 per alien to $75,000 per alien

Not saying I believe either side, just curious where your comments originated, and I noticed you provided no source.
