Question about passport...

I have just returned to the US after visiting my Fiance who lives in the UK. We filed for a K1, sent off packet 3 and are just waiting for an interview date. Unfortunately when I got home I realized I misplaced my passport. I am going to report this asap but am not sure if this will effect the KI process. Again, I am not the beneficiary. Does anyone have any idea if/how a lost passport on the petitioners part will effect a K1 visa? Thanks in advance...

First of all, your passport has NO bearing on the case what-so-ever.

When exactly did you "misplace" your passport, and how exactly does one "misplace" a passport?!

If you plan on traveling outside th U.S. anytime soon, then I suggest you apply for a new passport.

If you are certain that your passport is missing then report it immediately, apply for a new passport, did you write your passport number down anywhere??? If not do not worry, if you are not planning a visit outside of the USA for the next couple of months then do not worry as it is not your passport they will be asking for at the London Embassy it will be your fiance/e.

I actually misplaced it somewhere between getting home from the airport. I had just been to England, and came home, got through customs (so I know I had my passport with me then), and I'm fairly sure I had it in the car as well. I got home, dumped everything in the house and the next day i couldn't find my passport. Stupidly enough I lost it somewhere in between... it will probably turn up the second I send in the missing passport report....

That is, unless you submitted copies of all the pages of your passport with the petition instead of your birth certificate/naturalization certificate/etc. If that is the case, then the passport would be needed at the interview because the Consular Officer has the right to ask to see originals of any copies submitted with the petition.

The birth certificate, or copies of all the pages of the passport were strictly to determine the nationality/citizinship of the petitioner. They will not ask to see those at the interview, since the case was already approved by the USCIS.

Janice,

Luckily I did have my passport number and all the information because I had made a photocopy of it for the 129F packet. I just put a deposit down on my dress today and was making myself sick with worry about the whole thing. I am usually pretty organized, I couldn't believe I had lost track of my own passport.

I did submit a copy of my passport for the 129F but only to show passport stamps and that I had been to the UK within the past two years. I submitted my US birth certificate to prove citizenship.

However unlikely it is that they would actually need or ask to see it at the interview, it doesn't change the fact that they have the *right* to ask. Personally, I'd feel much better having absolutely everything with me at the interview, rather than risk being unprepared.

As for the OP though, I wouldn't stress too much. Just make sure you do get the passport replaced as it is a very handy document :)

So you mean to say, she is supposed to send her passport to her fiance for the interview, just in case they want to see it? I don't think so. The fact that she is a U.S. citizen has already been determined, otherwise her case wouldn't have ever been approved.

Her passport has no bearing on this case, other than she needs to find it, or apply for a replacement, only for the sole reason of being able to travel outside the U.S.

Please don't confuse the facts.

I completely agree with the last post. There is no way that the London consulate expects the beneficiary to be in possession of the US Citizen's passport.
