Double turkey!

We do both as well. Canadian thanksgiving with my family here in canada and then we do a turkey for just the two of us for the US thanksgiving at his house. We try to celebrate all holidays and most times it works out that we're in the country that's having the holiday. Though this year for Canada Day it will be the first time I'll be in the US on that day so not sure what kind of 'mini celebration' to do in the yard to remind the neighbours that I'm a 'crazy canadian' LOL

Ya the fireworks happen at the end of June between Windsor/Detroit on a day that's neither Canada Day nor Independance day so as not to offend LOL I'm pondering something just 'canadian' on July 1

We celebrate both Thanksgivings now as well! I love the idea. Especially since both have different origins.

We also have some different foods at each as well. The same for Easter too in fact. My family always had a ham at Easter with scalloped potatos and cabbage rolls. Gene's family has a roasted beef!

His family is very keen on incorporating anything Canadian into the holiday traditions (like Christmas crackers!). That really makes me feel included.

We do both if we can, as we are close enough to each other's family. Same with July 1 and 4th. I like the holidays that are different. If I have to work one of them I usually will have the other off and it's nice to work the Canadain one as it's a stat day and pays the $$$ and then I can still celebrate on the US one when it's just a regular work day for me.

We just do American. So 2 turkeys a year is enough (Thanksgiving and Christmas). Now the only thing that's new to me is that I've always grown up with turkey on Christmas and Ham (most times) on Christmas Eve. My wife (American) says it's always christmas tradition to have ham on christmas and not turkey?

Maybe it's a local thing where she gets the ham on christmas day or maybe it's a local thing where I grew up that it's a turkey thing. I can't see it being Canada doing turkey and America doing ham at all...

I'm just a wanderer in the desert winds...

My hubby hates turkey........ :( ...... he says his family has it for American Thanksgiving but he just kinda gags a mouthful or two down if he is with them at that time..... most of his family lives about 3.5 hours away from us. And to top that off....... his family never has turkey for Christmas either.... I don't know what I'm going to do here..... they have a ham and a brisket for Christmas. My family tradition in Canada was turkey, stuffing, cabbage rolls...... he hates them too...... Yikes!! :o

In my (American) family, we never had ham on Christmas Day. It was either turkey or a beef rib roast. Christmas Eve is actually the big celebration night for us. We are (part) Italian and do a big feast of various seafoods and pasta. My Canadian hubby says that he has had ham on Christmas sometimes. For me, ham is an Easter food!

hehehe! Jerry as well We only have a small grill, so they'll have to take turns. :P

My first thanksgiving (American) was quite the culture shock -- smoked turkey, ham and brisket (my MIL tends to go overboard :P) , green bean casserole, the works. Smoked turkey, yuck! Fortunately my MIL wasn't fan of it either and I haven't seen one since!

Well, the issue with my fiance's parents is... they're vegetarians. The kicker is that his dad makes the turkey. I don't want to put his dad into a lot of trouble, but I also don't want to upset him because I didn't ask for his help. (He really does make a fantastic turkey.)

Luckily, the rest of his family are carnivores, and they'll definitely want to celebrate the Canadian holidays with their new addition to the family. :D
