The point is moot cause he's been here a year now and has been working. However, had I answered this before I would have said HELL YES he's going to get a job.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

I can't vote since I'm the foreign spouse. Anyway, thank God after being here for 7 months and having the EAD for 1 month I got a job. I don't think many spouses can come here and continue their career at the same level as it used to be on their home country. I was in a manager/supervisory level and now I am starting all over again from the bottom, but still, I got a good job and I can' t complain. I wasn't born to be a housewife, plus I won't sit on my butt and expect to get anything close to what I had in Brazil, I have to start somehow and I didn't wanna wait. So overall I'm very happy with my decision and good luck to all spouses that decide to work here  .

It was agreed waaay before I moved that I would be working.

For him, it is really up to me. For me, having my DL and working give me the "old/normal routine" back. Helped a lot with the adjustment.

My husband will work after a couple months of getting used to being here.

Yeah that. Plus, my husband needs time to get reacquainted with his daughter and visa versa, not to mention we have to buy him a car, he has to get his driver's license, wait for his green card and SS card to come in, etc, etc. I don't want there to be any pressure to immediately get to work in the first two months. After that, he will start looking for temporary work. We are moving about 600 miles away this coming winter and so he won't be looking for anything permanent around Indy, just something to get some extra money and a work history started here in the US. Then, after the hopefully last large move we have to undertake for awhile, we will both be looking for permanent full-time but will take whatever in the meantime.

Suj wanted to start working as soon as possible, which was still 5 months after arriving. His EAD took a couple months to get approved, etc.

He really needed to work since I didn't have the best pay and we wouldn't have been able to get out own place until he worked. Now he just works and I don't! :innocent::D I know we are blessed to be able to do that, and I love it!

I'm voting for my future hubby..hell yeah he'll work as soon as the powers that be let him work! He's bummed he can't come over on simply a work visa. He's got a great career, his university degree and is well on his way to following his passions so for him to give it up for awhile, simply cause he's waiting for his EAD is going to be frustrating, but I really hope he stays happy till he can be out at work again! :)

Nyah nyah...I've been to SoCal, what's the attraction? I get it if someone was born and grew up there, but why do people MOVE there?

What one person detests another one loves, I guess. We all like different things, life would be boring otherwise and VERY VERY crowded.

I dunno...................the mountains, the ocean, the desert, the weather.
Let's see:
  • Mountains--CA does top TX on that score, unquestionably
  • desert--fairly large parts of TX are certainly desert, so doesn't top there
  • ocean--TX has a coast; I guess CA can claim "topping" due to longer coast
  • weather: both cases, generally warm--but for those who wish to see snow, possible in CA unlikely in TX

TX does better on:

  • taxes -- both have rather high sales taxes, but TX at least compensates with a state-income-tax of ZERO
  • general cost-of-living (Dallas similar generally to Atlanta, Houston slightly higher; SoCA on the other hand generally higher than Gaithersburg)

On my "travelability" issue, both are rather similar (there are straight-through flights to YYC from DFW and IAH in TX, and from LAX and SFO in CA)

Given a choice with ONLY these options, I would take TX over CA.
