Thank you!

And OMG, *NEVER* use Atlanta as your POE.  I lived there 18 years, and even when I was flying home from overseas, I'd connect ANYWHERE ELSE to avoid using Atlanta as my POE.  Not only are they slow, but they are also incredibly rude and even militant.  I got thru there one time, and I stopped for a second to put my passport back in my bag and this large dude from CBP screams "YOU ARE IN A MOVING HALLWAY, KEEP MOVING !!!"   I just looked and said "Just as soon as I put my passport in my bag".  (I was literally 1 of 3 people in this massive hallway)

That was literally the last time I *EVER* used Atlanta for a POE.  Worst managed border crossing in the nation.

My wife is coming through the Atlanta POE. So I guess I should expect the worst, right? The good thing is that's going to be her final stop so we won't have to worry about missing any connecting flights.

Congrats.

When are you going to the SS office?

We went last weekend.  She lost her I-94, so I brought the printout from the I-94 web-site.  They initially said they wouldn't take it, but they eventually did.

Then: We went to get a state ID.  Sadly they only gave her a state ID with an expiration date 90 days out.  (The length of the Visa)

Sorry about that. Miraculously my wife got a REAL state ID with 5 years duration. However we were married at the time. There is a strict order to things:

SS

marry

ID

bank

Once you file for AOS you can renew her REAL state ID.

We did the bank also.  🙂

The State of Florida said they would only give her an 8 month ID until her permanent green card was in.  (and then they would only renew it for two years).  Go figure.    Each time I have to pay for a new ID.  #FAIL

In the meantime I'm trying to make heads or tails of all of these AoS forms.  She will absolutely want the EAD and AP documents.   (She wants to work and she wants to visit home before she works.  The AoS in my city is about 11 months as of now.)

The state of Florida is not compliant with the REAL ID law, unfortunately.

Hopefully there will be a class action lawsuit against these terrible states.

Are you sure?  I use my Florida DL to fly all the time?  She uses her new ID as well.

According to this, Florida is compliant.

The REAL ID Act became effective nationwide on May 11, 2008. Florida began issuing REAL ID compliant credentials after January 1, 2010. The new credentials have a star in the upper right corner of the card, as shown in the sample license example on the right. Florida is a REAL ID compliant state and all Florida licenses should be accepted nationwide”

Only the standard ID or DL that are issued or existing can’t be used for air travel beginning Oct 2020. Till then even normal ID or DL issued by FLorida can be used for air travel.

Ok.  Both her and my IDs have stars, so I guess we are complaint.

I just hate that her first ID is only good for 90 days.  Then only for a few more months.  😞

Actually if the have been compliant since 2010, nearly all of the older style licenses and IDs should be out of circulation by now.  (It's been 9 years !)

A fair amount of states are nowhere near compliant and are still giving out old non-compliant licenses.

According to the DHS RealID web-site nearly all of the states are complaint or have extensions until being compliant by the end of this year.  (California being the notable exception)

Yeah I was thinking of California when I said that statement. Which they have said themselves that they are nowhere near compliant at all.

Standard (Not older) DL or IDs won’t be out of circulation as one is not required to get REAL ID/DL. They will still keep issuing those even past Oct 2020. It’s just that TSA or other federal entities won’t accept those as IDs and those with standard IDs need to use passport for such purposes.
