Hello again all, so I am filling out this I-129F and in the section about employment and employment history, I don't know what to put. I am currently unemployed and have never worked (before you ask I can support my partner as I have savings and a joint sponsor), how do I fill in this section?

"Well, I Was Sleeping, Y'Know, And My Mother, Who Passed When I Was Very Young, Y'Know, She Appeared In A Dream, Y'Know, And She Told Me, Y'Know, Very Gently To Just Let It Be, And So The Next Morning I Went Right Over To The Piano, Y'Know, And I Began To, Y'Know, Write The Song, Y'Know"

Thanks! While on this topic, do you know what the difference between N/A and NONE is? That confuses me.

n/a for not applicable

none or 0 in place of an answer that would be filled with a number.

Great info, thanks! So, for example if it asks for a date or like, the alien identification number which I don't have because I was born in the US, would I put NONE? Or do those not qualify as quantities?

I would answer ‘N/A’ for that one...because it doesn’t apply to you if you were born in the US.

‘NONE’ or ‘0’ should only really be used when the answer to the question is numerical...how many children do you have...how many years did you live in Scotland, etc...

However, that’s speaking from a linguistic point of view...USCIS won’t care about a perfect use of language/grammar, as long as it’s completely clear what you mean by your answer - so don’t worry too much about N/A or NONE, either should be fine.

so if my father is deceased, instead of putting DECEASED in the current residence fields, I should just put N/A?

Well, I would recommend being clear that your father is deceased, as just writing N/A without any context would potentially cause confusion. I would write:

N/A - deceased.

Not every box on the form has a definitive right or wrong answer - for some, you just have to go for the most logical, easy to understand answer.

Nope. It says ‘town of residence’, which is a current tense - without wanting to be too blunt, your father doesn’t reside anywhere, as he’s no longer living. Sorry to be so indelicate.

Oh no worries, you're not being indelicate. I appreciate the straightforward answer! Thanks much!
