Is it necessary to translate chat logs between you and your significant other w/ regards to proof of ongoing relationship?

This is just off my experience almost 10 years ago and I was at the K1 interview. I submitted a few emails for each month of our interaction when I submitted the K1 petition. During the K1 interview, the CO did ask a few questions on our correspondence back then, like how many children we wanted which was on one of the email correspondent. YMMV

Translations. If you submit a document with information in a foreign language, you must also submit a full English translation. Okay. Then define "a document" and if a chat log can be considered as such?

It *can* hurt you so i wouldnt send them at all. What if they do read the chats and interpret something you say wrong. Dont try to shoot yourself in the foot on accident. I submitted a few pictures from the years we been together along with the 2 year stuff and did fine.

I would define "document" as any paper or file I wanted USCIS to read.....I would consider chat logs a document.

I don't think USCIS has the time or resources to translate non-English documents....that's why they require us to send certified translations.

According to Webster:

 

Document- proof, evidence

 

Something that serves as evidence or proof

 

if you are sending something to the uscis that is intended to be evidence or proof and it is not in English, it needs to have an accompanying translation 

 

if you are sending something that is not intended to be evidence or proof of something,  then why are you including it

We didn't have a consulate known for being difficult, but we sent absolutely no "proof of ongoing relationship," as it isn't required for the petition.  No chats or messages, not even any photos.  We only sent primary evidence of having met in person as well as the other actual required items.  Approved with no RFEs.
