K1 visa, I have not meet my fiancee in-person, can I still apply?

My fiancee lives in China. We meet online and chat on MSN everyday for several months now. I have not met her in-person. We plan to meet in September. Can I apply for K1 visa now or should I wait until after we meet?

wow, that is great. I am a chinese by ancestry and speak chinese too and there are lots of chinese here in the USA.

One requirement for a fiancee visa is for you to have met in person at least once within the latest 2-year period...and in truth, this is a test of how well you will get along with each other on a day-to-day basis. I dont want to douse cold water on you but the chinese can be very conservative and there are many cultural differences which can best be tested once you have met each other and stayed together for some weeks.

But I really do wish you all the happiness together as I have found my own handsome prince charming!

Not only for the K-1 requirements, but also for the reasons the above poster mentioned, you definitely need to meet in person! Don't you want to see face to face that person you're going to spend the rest of your life with?

Definitely meet. Wait until your meeting in September to file anything and collect as much proof of your relationship as possible. Did you ask her to marry you over the net or phone? I've known my fiancee for over a year now and we discussed marriage before meeting but I would have never asked her until being with her and seeing how we interacted.

Do not try to get your spouse on the cheap, it didn't work on the global war on terror and it won't work towards a happy marriage.

It will be in your best interest to document a relationship. Plane tickets, meal receipts, medical receipts, western union receipts, pictures, and phone call records. Make sure that all your forms are complete and correct

The #1 requirement for getting approved at USCIS is having met in the last 2 years. Do it before you file or at best you'll get an RFE and at worst it will be denied.

You can apply, but you will get denied and waste the $170 for filing the petition.

Really I don't know how someone can get engaged to a person you never met. There are alot of things about a person you will never really know until you meet in person. I know being apart is hard, but if you try to rush things too quickly you may end up apart anyway. Which is not that bad for you, since your not immigrating, but if things don't work out after marriage, your fiancee will in a strange place without much support (Or she could just be using you to get a greencard which sometimes happens). Take a trip or two, let your relationship develop, and then see if you still want to get married to her.
