Hey @LukeU, you’ve been quiet for a while! It’s drawing close to May now, so I imagine life is getting pretty hectic for you!

Me and Herschell have agreed that we’ll visit England at least once a year - but we’ll tie in a mini-holiday to somewhere else in Europe whilst there (I took Herschell to Prague over Christmas and it blew his mind how quickly and easily we can get to other European countries...and how cheap the beer is! 😆)...

Yeah I went a little MIA! Courtney was here until the 10th of April which ended a 2 week trip between London, Whitby, Scotland, Hull and back to London in the space of 13 days. Then back to work/school/packing and all the fun stuff inbetween! Along with more AOS revision, I swear uni is easier than K1.

That's it, we've spoken often about popping to Greece or Spain at some point in the future so it'll always be good to look forward to. Although again...Bahamas, Mexico! They'll always get my vote, hell even the UP of Michigan holds a special place in my heart.

Hope things are going well! :)

I was visiting Herschell in LA until the 15th, so went a bit MIA myself 🙃.

I didn’t realise you’re in uni at the mo - what will happen with your course? Can it be transferred or is it through open university?

See, Europe has a very special place in my heart - I’m looking forward to going to Hawaii on our honeymoon (and it’s nice how short a flight it’ll be!)...but I’m just as much looking forward to showing Herschell the places in Europe I love (I’ve planned out our next 5 years of visits 😆).

Things are going great! We booked our officiant whilst I was there - and we’ve got our NOA2 now, so things are hopefully going smoothly for me to set sail in exactly seven months today! 😍

Open university thankfully so I'll just carry on with it as is. Unfortunately means I'm running 2 modules this month and next just so I had something to do while I'm unable to work when I get there.

Hawaii would be amazing, we're holding off on our Honeymoon just due to holiday time available for Courtney as she used a lot coming here and a good bit over Christmas so :) But I don't mind waiting, one thing we've gotten over this whole process is impatiently patient that's for sure.

Wow 5 years already?! :P I mean to be honest, I could summarise our 5 years worth of trips here too if it's all up to Cour....England. Done.

You got your NOA2?! Congratulations, go time now. We got our hotel and flights booked for the wedding too this trip so we're all set!

I think I need to look into open university or something similar (maybe find out what my options will be over there)...I completed my first two years of a BEd, but took some time out after a relationship breakup and to get out of debt - that was 13 years ago - ended up working and never completed my degree...which I worry will make it hard to find a job in the field I currently work in (Internal Communications)...

We’re not getting married until February next year (there’d be no way Herschell could fit a honeymoon in this year, all his holiday has been booked up for the same reason as Courtney’s!) - he wants to go to Hawaii as he grew up there and Japan (Navy kid) and really wants to go back - and it’s an American state so no problem that I won’t have a green card yet - but I think we’re going to wait a couple of weeks or so, as I want to spend time with family and friends who come out for the wedding.

You did? That’s great news! What hotel did you go for? And have you picked your venue yet?

You are able to top up via Open University, if you explain prior education levels and show the certificates and what not they'll count the points up and, tadah. Same here with Aviation, sadly everyone and their dog has a degree so they automatically think you need one...

We will probably just take a long weekend trip up to the Upper Peninsula or something like that once we're back and sorted, we both love it up there and hopefully the weather will still be gorgeous around that time of year. Plus same as you, family are flying out so we'll spend time with them and be nice for the in-laws to meet and what not instead of just facebook messenger.

We're staying in Excalibur, it's got a walkway through to Luxor for hair and makeup appointments (not for me I may add!). So that's that and we have the venue all booked and contracts signed and all that fun stuff. Just the licenses to go for once we're there now and we're all set.

Time to continue packing, binning, selling and donating! They say money doesn't buy you happiness but I'd be pretty happy to just bin the lot and buy everything on my arrival, however my bank account says PACK 😂

Awesome, I’ll have a look into that, thanks!

Yup, know it’s definitely like that in aviation over there - my brother was the head of the UK division of whatever that company that begins with a T is (Textron? Something like that!) - but said he would never be able to progress higher than head of the UK operations, as any higher would mean moving to the US, where he’d automatically need a degree, as all US Textron jobs do...

I’m in exactly the same boat...Herschell keeps telling me to bin all my books and we’ll buy them on kindle when I move...firstly, I love my books and I like to hold them in my hands...secondly, I’m not going to be working for MONTHS! 😳

Textron at Doncaster yeah :) It's honestly ridiculous, but I guess I'll just have to get that bit of paper. Although to be fair some of it can be done through working and just experience, but just like here it's getting your foot in the door initially that's the hard bit without the fomal education.

Thankfully we both read similar books (for the most) and Courtney like myself, likes an actual book. I have a good library on my kindle just in case but we have enough there to keep me occupied. Plus training as this year hasn't been the best with regards to "Fit in your wedding suit" diet 😑 Not to mention I know how good the breakfast food is at the place just down the road, so between cleaning/cooking, studying and training I should be good with the chunk we have left

Haha, oh I wasn’t referring to not working re having lots of time to read em...my concern was paying to replace them!!

If you’re in need of some workout motivation, see how near your local November Project is when you move - their workouts will get you trim in no time, plus help you meet new friends in the area...and they’re freeee!

Yeah, maybe worth while trying to get as many moved slowtime as you can. Start sending a few a week or something :P

I've just checked that up, only a 3-4 hour drive away....if I ran to that I'd be in much better shape lol.

Ohhhh man, that’s a shame! We’re 45 minutes from our nearest one, but there are actually 2 in LA, plus loads of sub-groups for the different days - so whilst I’m there, it’s only Sunday and Thursday mornings that I don’t go to a workout (again, all free).

I took over a suitcase and hand luggage case filled with books and framed pictures on my last visit - will be doing the same in August...and as emigrating by boat, there’s no restriction on luggage, just need to be able to fit it in the cabin (and then in the car in NY).

I think I will look into freighting by boat too, if I still have stuff to go - apparently you can have stuff sent very cheaply, but it takes 2-3 months - I’m fine with that 🙃.

Thankfully when Courtney isn't working I can go with her to the gym free of charge and then I'm happy just running and whatnot alone and getting used to surroundings. I've always ran alone so.

But that's amazing that it's all free too

LCL would be the way t do it (Less than Container Load) so you share someones shipping container. There's a few posts around here but one I have bookmarked when I initially (naively) thought I'd be taking loads with me:

http://cargocost.com/home/export-lcl/

Sharing a container is definitely cheaper if you can wait for the items to arrive.

I always forget you're doing NY - LA drive! That's going to be so amazing.

Yeah ditto, I slowly took stuff and came back with less and less apart from Christmas where I brought some summer clothes back but that's all sorted with work. Quite lucky as I'm leaving 2-3 boxes to be sent out periodically from work and they're sending all my important documents and school books as they weigh too much for me to pack.
