Ah ok so you must have applied for an extension with the IRS since the normal due date was April? I wish we'd done that since they accept evidence of an extension in place of a tax transcript.

Yep we've done that through our accountant :)

Just thought I’d update this in case it’s of any help to anyone else.

I had my interview this morning and my CR1 visa was approved on the spot! I did NOT have a 2018 tax transcript and was never asked for one at the consulate.

It’s still a complete mystery to me what they actually require, since the man interviewed right before me was denied for not having tax transcripts and was told tax returns aren’t acceptable (as well as a couple of other reasons).

This is what I supplied at the interview:

- 2016 and 2017 tax transcripts (even though they showed $0 income since my sponsor was a student at those times).

- 2018 W2 and complete 1040 including all schedules and the ITIN application form.

- 3 months of pay stubs.

- Sponsor’s current employment contract.

I don’t know what it was that got it across the line - maybe all they want is to see a history of filing taxes plus some evidence of current income. No idea, and I didn’t want to question it. Just glad that common sense prevailed and there were no further bureaucratic delays!

My sister in law has her interview the same date as you and she got the same email. Our issue is that our husbands are here in Australia with us, so we are unable to download the transcripts from the website, so have had to request them via snail mail. Hoping they arrive before the interview!!

hi, so it's true that you can't get them downloaded from australia?  I am trying right now and having trouble.  sounds like i'll have to send in a form via mail.  did you try over the phone?

Yep this is what we had to do. We were unable to download it online because of the Australian address, it wouldn't accept it. We requested via mail but then got a response saying we had the wrong address on it. So we ended up calling and trying to find out what was going on. They realized there was a mistake in them sending that to us, so they then requested it again and we got it a few weeks later.

We tried requesting them to be emailed to us or faxed to us but they had just put in place a new rule that said they couldn't fax them anymore. So your only option is via mail.

thanks for letting me know.  Unfortunately I've moved since my last filing, so now I think I have to fill out a change of address form before I can request via mail.  they really need to get with the times.  did it take long?
