It's not a single line.  Things are done in batches.  They're done in different offices.  With different work loads.

It's like going to the DMV.  Pretend each window is like a different office.  Two people can get in line at the same time.  Depending on the work at each line, one person can reach the top of his line before the other person.

It’s not a perfect system.  For all intents and purposes, petitions at USCIS are processed in first come first serve, but there will be a variance depending on how fast/efficient the reviewer is.  So yes, sometimes someone who filed after you will receive an approval first.

Same for NVC, and of course at the Embassy stage, it varies by country.

Buckle up - the immigration journey is long, and draining.  Try and dig deep because however much patience you have, you’ll need more. :)

As @geowrian says, it's similar to a grocery store.......there are several lines, and some are just faster than others...

I more of liken it to a massive grocery store with a hundred checkout lanes. Some go faster than others. Some people choke up the line with slow or insufficient payment. Sometimes something doesn't scan and everybody has to wait longer.

There's always another line going faster than yours. There's always another line going slower than yours.

Don't focus on the other lines. Your turn will come.

You beat me by 2 seconds!!!!!!!😂

You're waiting your turn.  There are millions of immigration petitions ahead of you.   Your case is sitting on someone's desk.  Don't presume that they are actually looking for anything.

Nobody will look at it until you are at the front of the line. They will do a background check, check the I-129F for errors, ensure all documents are provided, see if the evidence provided shows that you met within the past 2 years, etc. The petition part of fairly simple...other than complicated cases the overwhelming majority are approved.
