Anyone booked domestic flights for their beneficiary while adjusting status?

The name order in the US passport is Last, First Middle.

The name order in the Vietnam passport is Last, Middle First.

If I'm booking a flight on Alaska Airlines with the form below.. what should I fill out for the Legal first name and Middle name?

Should I write it as:

A:

Legal first name: First

Middle name: Middle

B:

Legal first name: Middle

Middle name: First

😄

Legal first name: Middle First

Middle name:

Thanks!

Fill in the name exactly as it appears in her passport.

How do I fill the form when they split the individual name boxes?  So you're saying I should write her middle name in the first name box and first name in the middle name box?

Don’t over think... first is first, Middle is middle and last is last.

Never had an issue with any airline for my Viet wife.

  • Do not think too hard.
    • If it is 3 x word name, then do it as normal.
    • If it is 4 x word name and 2 of 4 are for middle name (very common for Vietnamese female), the order does not really matter for the middle name
  • You can in fact omit the middle name.  My big family members tend to omit the middle name for this kind of stuff and we do not have any issue.

haha.  I just want to avoid having issues at the airport.  I did run into these issues in Vietnam.  Security wouldn't let us through because my name on the US passport did not match the boarding pass.  We filled our names correctly on the form but US and Vietnam reverses the order and that causes issues.

They do do that, mostly to see if you would slip them 5 or 10 bucks and they'll let you through. The rule in Vietnam while flying domestically is the whole name has to appear and match for Vietnamese. However if you hold a foreign passport, only the first and last are needed. They tried to do that to me all the time when I traveled between Ha Noi and Sai Gon, because I usually gave them my Vietnamese passport first, but if they start acting, I just took my US passport out and that usually took care of it (or the $5)

I just came back from Vietnam with my wife.  Her name: Nguyen Thi Thuy An on Vietnamese passport (It does not really distinct Last and First Name, just Full Name) . We booked 3 legs fare with An Nguyen. No issue with Tan Son Nhat, Hong Kong, Newark.

Thanks for letting me know! :)
