Right!. Unfortunately I already filed joint back in February.😥  We sent the W7 Form  along with a copy of his passport that was notorized. It was rejected because they no longer accept notorized copy's.

Good luck. If it doesn't work out, can't you just file a new return. The other was rejected, right? So it's not filed?

The W7  was rejected. My return is still "in process" until we resubmit and are issued an ITIN. If it doesn't work out then.. I don't know. Lol.. But Thank You.

IRS will still process the return but will only apply standard deduction of $12000 for the one person with SSN. Once the corrected W-7 is re-submitted, IRS will then automatically apply the standard deduction of $24000 for married couple.

It's only the W-7 that is rejected; not the whole tax return so op is good. Just send the corrected W-7 whenever you have it with a copy of original return.

Wow. What?! Since when have they stopped accepting notarized copies?

Since the beginning. Notarized copies was not an acceptable document per W7 instructions, so it was OP’s fault to send that. If it’s not original, it has to be a copy certified by the issuing agency or by the US embassy.

My husband lives in Algeria. We are trying to obtain an ITIN # to complete my filed 2018 taxes. He tried to mail me his passport but wasn't allowed to. Does anyone from Algeria Know where he can get a CERTIFIED ORIGINAL COPY of his passport. The municipality he received it from said they don't provide that. I'm thinking they don't understand what he needs. And also where to find a Certified Acceptance Agent for a Certificate Of Accuracy in Algeria. Any info is appreciated. Thanks!

He has to make an appointment at the US Embassy in Algeria and they will certify it for them. Check their website first if they provide this service.
