I-134 forms for consular interview

Hi everyone,

I need some information on what I need to bring to my consular interview in regards to the I-134. I am applying for a K1 visa and only have my fiance's W2 and 1040 along with the signed I-134. Do I need to ask him to send me more files in addition to these forms even if employer name, income, etc. are in the W2? Or is the list of required docs from I-134 instructions really necessary?

I would love to hear from someone who has been to an interview and understand what exactly is requested...

Thank you!!!

W2's, tax return transcripts, letter from employer, current pay stubs (3 months worth is best). Things that show consistent, on-going, and current income is most important.

06/30/2016 : I-129F Packet Sent

11/08/2016 : Interview - APPROVED!

Thanks for the reply!

So tax returns would be 1040, right?

Why is a letter from employer necessary if the name is on the W2? (this is what my fiance asked)

It's just additional evidence. Something with letter head, official from the HR stating position, length of employment, ect. But having the transcripts/W2's, pay stubs and all should suffice if that's what you have,.

  • It is better to have tax transcript, however, you can use 1040 Form + W2  + all schedules
  • W2 is only issued one per year while they want to ensure petitioner is currently employed.

At the end, they may not look at the stuff you bring at all but just do your best to prepare.

Make sure to bring everything the embassy asks for. Then to be safe bring everything the I-134 asks for. Also the embassy might change its mind. In the first email it omitted the I-134. We ignored that and did one any way. In the second email, it asked for an I-134.

In our case, the embassy just took the I-134 and none of the supporting documents.

Over produce on documents, and then have a shredding party / burning party after the visa is in hand.

Haha yeah... that's what I kept telling my fiance who insists W2 is enough... I'll take it and if they don't ask for it, I won't provide it 🤷‍♀️

What do you mean by "all schedules"? 🤔

"A tax schedule is a form the IRS requires you to prepare in addition to your tax return when you have certain types of income or deductions. These commonly include things like significant amounts of interest income, mortgage interest or charitable contributions."

Ahhh ok gotcha, thanks! I will pass on the information to my fiance since unlike me, he will know what all of this means! 🤣

Thanks everyone for the help!!

  • 2 weeks later...

Update: got an email from the embassy with a table of forms, those I must bring on the day of my interview were marked with an "X"... In the table "I-134" was marked (as a form to bring), but "Petitioner Taxes" were not... (neither was "Proof of relationship" btw but that's off topic 😂)

What do I need to bring with me then? Will the I-134 alone suffice? 😬

No.  The i134 without the needed support evidence is meaningless

YMMV
