Hi all,

My husband had his interview back in his home country and our spousal visa was approved. Yay! I was over there (Guatemala) but have had to fly back to the states to work. My husband is still there with our toddler son, as he was waiting for the passport with the visa stamp to be returned through cargo express along with the sealed envelope to be presented to immigration officials.

I'm just looking for insight into how it goes when he comes into the states. He is coming into Fort Lauderdale, has a four hour layover, and then I pick him up at our home airport. He will have our toddler son (u.s. citizen) along with him. I know he presents the sealed envelope to immigration officials. Is there anything else he needs? They just want to see the sealed envelope that came back through cargo express right?

What about his other papers? He doesn't have the medical exam or x rays anymore because I thought he was done with that part and I was trying to organize his papers.

What sort of questions can he expect? Will they think it's weird he has our son and I am not there?

Thanks in advance for everyone's insight and experience.

Most embassies now do not give enevelopes so maybe your husband's package will simply contain his passport with something written on the visa that the package is in CCD and another piece of paper explaining that the medical results were sent electronically to the DOS. For me I was told to keep my xray cd and hand it to CBP at POE, so it maybe safer if your husband could find his cd or request for another copy from the hospital where gis medicals were done.

This is all consulate specific.  Don't muddy the waters.  Let him follow the instructions HE receives.

Thanks for everyone for getting back to me! My husbamd did actually receive the bug sealed envelope that he can't open. The consolate didn't say anything about the medical cds- which is why I brought them back with me! I thought he was all done with them. He may be able to get another copy but at this point in the process our money is really really tight and I would hate to spend the money if I didnt absolutely have to. Dont get me wrong if we 100% need to we will but if it means going further into debt when we DON'T need them I would prefer not to. I get spending money to be safe - I really do- and have done quite a bit already that it turns out we didnt need to. So I'm just looking for some certainty to see if I need to do this or not. Thank you for your help wonderful visajourney community.

The X Ray CD is a souvenir.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Yes, don’t sweat the CD at all!  A CBP agent isn’t going to over read the physician.  I brought ours back too and got nervous when I found I had it at home. It wasn’t even sealed.
