Backfilling taxes J1

Hi all,

In 2013 I was here on a J1 visa as an au pair, but I never filed my taxes since I lost my SSN and couldn't get it back (I was already back in my home country)

I immigrated to the US last year on K1, got married and got my SSN again. Now I'm going to file my taxes for 2013 to avoid any trouble in the future, but I have a few questions that I wanna make sure:

- I assume I have to file in my maiden name, since I was not married in 2013? My SSN is now in my married name, but that's only since 2018.

- Status 'single non resident alien' since I wasn't married in 2013?

- It asks for current address, can I just write down my current address right now here in the US? And do I have to write down my foreign address where I returned to when I left the States?

- I filed for AOS last year (still waiting for interview), but the question 'did you ever apply for a green card' should be answered NO, since I did not apply for my green card in 2013?

- Since I didn't meet the substantial presence test (I wasn't enough days in the US in 2012 and was never in the US in 2011) and didn't meet the green card test, can I claim residency for tax purposes in my home country? I didn't pay taxes there, but as I understand it I did not qualify to be seen as a resident in the US (and frankly I have no interest in that, I have to back pay taxes anyway lol)

Sorry for all the questions, it's more of a double check if my thoughts are right. Also, I'm filling out 1040NR-EZ (got this from the au pair agency)

If you go to the IRS website, you can find forms and instructions for 2013. Make sure you use the right year because tax rates and thresholds aren't the same each year. All your thinking is correct. Use your current address so they know how to contact you should there be a mistake or something.  Kinda like the 'ol RFE but it would say-- you calculated this incorrectly so you owe us xx more dollars.

Hi! This is completely off topic but I am just worried about my taxes since I was also a J1. I filed my taxes, paid what I owed, however, I have no idea how to see the status of my return.

Did they ask questions about this during your visa interview?

Thank you so much! I just don't know who to ask.

If they had any questions,  you would have received a notice via post.

YMMV

No questions during my K1 interview about this. I'm gonna file soon, and my husbands uncle (accountant) told me that I should file with all the info as of today, except for the status (single/married) Status should still be single, since its for 2013, other info must be most recent.

Hi, thank you so much for taking the time to answer. I was worried that it might be a problem. Thanks again! God bless you.
