My name is Carissa, I'm 25, Canadian, and in the process of obtaining a marriage-based immigration visa. I've been married to my American husband for 5 years but I haven't made it very far in this process due to being scammed by a fake online lawyer before this current attempt at obtaining a green card. We are at the point in the game where I have received the notice prompting me to schedule an appointment at the Montreal consulate and I'm thrilled!!! I'm really interested and eager to find people at a similar stage in the process to compare experiences, and I'll be posting a few questions I have in other discussions. I'm so glad to have found this site/wealth of immigration information. 😊

My husband changed places of employment in April, his new job meant that he moved to a new state altogether. There aren't a lot of resources describing how we can update information like that when our case has already passed review. I'm pretty sure I should not wait until the appointment to notify them of the changes. Should I be concerned that the changes will harm my chances of being approved? How should I go about updating the changed information?

And you were delayed for interview because of the fake lawyer you said? We submitted ours April 1 but no case complete e-mail yet! 🙏🏽

No, not at all. We actually had been fooled into thinking we had applied for the visa when they really never submitted any applications or processes. They were very convincing, their fees were high but they gave my husband who was in the Navy at the time a "military discount", took their time to fill out documents with us, then they would contact us about some missed information later down the road and explained that was why it was taking so long. They spoke to us both on the phone and through email and boasted that they were handling everything. We became concerned when we weren't contacted by any visa centers ourselves and none of the provided logins by the lawyer worked. We could never arrange in-person appointments with the lawyer. We asked around and discovered there were never any visa applications submitted anywhere, and when we compared what we were filing to other people who had gone through the process we realized we weren't giving even half of the required documents or information that would actually be needed. When we brought it up to the lawyer we were hung up on, and every attempt at communication with them after that failed. Their website was taken down and we used the resources available to us on the Navy base to try to get our money back but weren't successful. It was very upsetting and it took us a while to prepare restarting the process.

I hope you get your email soon! I remember how anxious I was waiting.

U dont need to be worried all the employment changes could be done when u go in ,just to be on safe side have ur husband to get a letter from his current employer stating hours hes working and what he makes hourly and ytd as well , that would help alot

Hi and welcome.  The one thing that concerns me about your post is you said youre prompted to book an interview.  If you did this correctly, the NVC will book the interview for you.

The consulate has never told me anything was amiss the times I've called as an alternative to scheduling online... I'm attaching a glimpse of the email I received from the Visa unit in Montreal. Now I feel a bit uneasy...
