Hank,

would the PSA copy is the one I need for the I 130 package or is the local marriage certificate adequate?

Before filing I intend to put spouse on health insurance and a credit card and whatever else I can in a short amount of time.

I hope to file ASAP after the wedding.

jj

PSA   that is the certified copy

Ok..another question that someone raised yesterday..

They claim that USC has to stay in PH for 10 days after marriage..that PH will not let them leave that country back to USA.

Anyone ever heard of such?

I'll be heading back in a few weeks to seal the deal so to speak and plan to stay a week for the marriage and resulting honeymoon.

Anyone see an issue with this plan?

Thanks.

Wasn't an issue for us.  We honeymooned in Palawan and I left 6 days after the wedding.

Just FYI, I did similar coming to file for license and returning a few weeks later for the wedding.  Our license had a 30 day expiration from date of issue and we made it by 4 days.  Not sure if your's will be the same.

Not sure who "they" are but the only 10 day requirement is the wait time after applying for the marriage license.   No requirement after the wedding .. ;)

The norm is supposed to be 120 days but I am not surprised that people's actual experience is something different

YMMV

Lol..one thing I learned about the previous and this experience is that there are many "experts" on Filipino immigration.

People spending thousands of dollars on "lawyers" just to review simple petitions when "lawyers" are even less informed.

Don't get me started on Filipino folklore, misconceptions, conspiracies, and things that are just plain cute in a childlike way.

I enjoy being there, as it's so different than the high-paced, high-stressed way of life here.

Now you will have a wait for the PSA copy of the marriage certificate (.. certified copy)  unless you can get that expedited.

Yeah..the pastor will take signed marriage license copies to local registrar and have them push it through.

I have no expectation of getting a PSA copy before I leave.

I won't the original PSA copy will I?

Just a copy for the CR-1 petition?

Thanks.

Just a copy PSA marriage certificate for the I-130 petition will work.

Moar questions..wedding next week.

After we get married and I get a PSA copy of Marriage Certificate, when filling out the I130, I use my wife's new last name..ie my last name..correct?

That led to a discussion about what to do about her passport.  She wants to get a new one.  However, I don't really see a need to get a new one in her new last name.

To travel, she just uses the name that is in the passport.

What I am unsure of is when our case gets to NVC and Embassy, would it be easier to have a passport in her new last name, or will the old passport suffice.

She still has many years before her present passport expires.

What about using her passport as an ID for when she first gets here..any issues with last name in passport being different than her wedded name?

As always..thanks!

Passports in Philippines are cheap and relatively quick.   I would just do it

Make sure new passport name matches marriage certificate name matches I-130 name, DS-260 name, etc. exactly.  My husband and I ran into some issues because of very slight differences, we're hoping everything can be worked out at his interview in 2 weeks.  All the best and good luck this time around!  Our process was 11 months from filing the I-130 to interview.

Get the new passport there.  It is cheap to do.   Cheaper than getting a new Green Card in the US.   If not she can carry a copy of her marriage license around.

It will not affect the process if she gets it while thing are pending.  Make the change when doing the DS-260 or at the interview.
