I noticed the processing times for CR-1 are like 400+ days.  Does that hold true for PH marriages?  I thought K1 and CR-1 were running about the same amount of time.

Researching marriage in PH seems to be at least a 2 trip affair as there are multiple waiting periods of 10+ days.

So any thoughts about best way now to be with loved ASAP here in USA?

Thanks again..

jj

Plan on a 3 week trip to get married. 2 weeks (10 working days) to get license then you can get married. The extra week is just in case something comes up.

I'm going for a few days in a few weeks to submit paperwork for license.

Then return a few weeks after that for the actual marriage.

What all do I need to bring to the Conuslar in Cebu..US Birth Certificate, ID (passport), and US Divorce Decree?

Is there such a thing as a CENOMAR for US citizens to marry there in PH?

I can't think of anything else for me to bring document wise.

Any insight?

Thanks.

Here is the advice that I give to anyone getting married in the Philippines. First you need to understand that they are not as structured or organized as in America. The only way to know for sure what is required at the city that you will get married in is for your future wife to go to the local municipal (civil registrar) and ask. Sometimes Filipinos tend to accept simple and incomplete answers, so you need to make sure that she stresses that she intends to marry a foreigner, and needs to know ALL requirements. Make her write it all down so she doesn't forget anything.

If you are required to get an Affidavit in Lieu of Capacity To Marry, I would advise landing in Manila and taking care of that and then flying on to Cebu. MAKE SURE that you go online to the US Embassy in Manila and schedule your appointment. For me I landed in Manila in the evening, stayed the night in a Hotel across the street, then went to the Embassy in the morning. It took less than an hour, then we went to her province to go to the registrar. After 2 weeks we got our certificate.

I also want to add that I believe you are rushing this. I think that when you apply for a spousal visa, they may question the fact that you already received K-1 for someone and within 6 months you are married to someone completely different. Just because you are able to get married and apply does not guarantee that it will be approved. You may have your own valid reasons, however from the outside looking in it seems very odd to be willing to make a lifetime commitment to someone and so quickly change that commitment to someone else.

Why not land in cebu and go to the consulate in cebu city.  No appointment required. walk-ins most mornings

YMMV

We got married in Hong Kong without all of the hassle of the PI.  You can email in the paperwork 2 or 3 weeks ahead and show up for the civil ceremony.  You get a certified copy of the license right away.  You can even file the report of marriage and get a new passport there.

I guess that is a better option but you would miss the beautiful Manila Bay.

We'll see how it goes.

I suspect in less than 12 months she'll be here.

🙂

Her pastor will do the nuptials and will help navigate the process.

Seems there is a 1 - day marriage seminar of sorts to attend.

I'll go to the Consulate in Cebu..then head to local province to attend seminar and apply with local registrar.

Lots to do in 5 days for sure.

Thanks,

jj

She wants a ceremony with her family and friends...that's the main reason behind a spousal visa rather than another k1.

Also I think going this route will be less risky from a procedural matter than another k1.

Just a short update on how things went..

Arrived in Cebu on Sunday.

Went to Consulate first thing Monday morning..lot of interesting people there for sure.

Received Legal Capacity before noon.

Attempted to attend Seminar in a major ? province the next day, but it was full and next opening was 2 weeks away.

Went to PSA to get CENOMAR's.  Fiance' had to resubmit as some information was not correct.

Motor'd further into the island the next day.  Had someone secure a spot for us at the Seminar in a minor province for Thursday.

Seminar was an all day affair of the same thing over and over..seems as if it's just a job creation thing for the local municipality.

After two rounds of getting my address right, received certificate at the end of the day.

Friday arrived at local registrars office..spent most of the morning there correcting the application for marriage at least 5 times..

But application approved finally and will license ready for pick up on 21st of May.

All in all a fairly painless process.

Just lots of paperwork. waiting, correcting, etc..

Will return in a few weeks for the ceremony.

Then will file shortly after I return.

Praying our petition speeds along.

Looks like you got lucky getting everything done quickly .. good for you!!

When you file the marriage certificate with the local registry, see about getting it expedited to PSA so you can get your Certified Copy quickly

I have an obligation to my daughter first.  She comes before anyone else.  I can't just get up and leave her.

Now if I didn't have a daughter, then yes I would have moved to PH.

She knew I would not be able to move there from the beginning and that she would have to move here.

She was ok with that until she got here.

You would not believe the amount of inquiries I get with my own daughter. Many friends and others ask me if I plan to bring my daughter back with me and my wife or leave her behind with her other family here in the Philippines. I am astonished every time that question pops up, especially from those with children. I am not sure what is going through the Filipino mind when they ask that question. But as a father to my daughter, I think it is a travesty that someone would think you would abandon your own flesh and blood. My daughter is not my wife's biological daughter, but from my previous marriage who was also a Filipina. My wife, late wife, and all our friends are all friends together so to have that question come to us is sort of like a slap in the face. To be honest, I don't fault them for asking that since it is quite common amongst Filipino's to leave their children behind and work abroad.

Romans 8:28 - And we know that all things work together for the good of those who love God: those who are called according to His purpose.
Hebrews 11:6 - And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.

Hank,

would the PSA copy is the one I need for the I 130 package or is the local marriage certificate adequate?

Before filing I intend to put spouse on health insurance and a credit card and whatever else I can in a short amount of time.

I hope to file ASAP after the wedding.
