Why does their own online system allow people to file then consider it "too early"?

Because their IT staff are geniuses? This is really strange and the first time I'm hearing of it. Seriously, someone should probably inform their help desk to tell them of the glitch.

  • Regarding why people cannot wait: too exciting + they have waited for too long.
  • For government related stuff, I always wait at least few days after I have been eligible. For my tax,  wait several weeks after I receive my W-2, giving the change for IRS patching their forms/system.

Agreed.  After years dealing with USCIS, what is a few more days really!?

I would be SO mad if I waited and my petition was denied bc of a system error.

I applied two days late after what happen to @Hypnos

Of all the things USCIS does wrong, I'm not sure they'll jump to fix this particular one.

It may have something to do with the computer clocks where they are located.  It is hard to tell, but there was another recent thread by @Hypnos that just went through the same issue.

That's what I'm saying... If this is a common issue, they need to not allow ANY applications until midnight Hawaiin time. I don't understand how we are allowed to do it a full day before. This way, there are no timing issues for anyone who applied online, only those who submitted paper applications that legitimately got delivered too early.

Yup. That's the post I was referencing. I was going to pull my application but seeing as I was two months out from my interview date, and 3 months in I figured I'd hedge my bets.

Sorry but by law, under 8 CFR 123.45 it is expressly forbidden for any system to operate in a sensible manner.

Assuming you meant N-400 (not I-400), he can file again immediately. Is there a reason he couldn't file it online? If you file online you can't make a mistake and file too early because the web application prevents you from filing early.

I'm going through Lawyer and they're sending paper application with rest of documents in mail together.

N-400 Application Timeline :

Application sent via mail - April 15th  (Field office Dallas, TX)

NOA Receipt date - April 17th

Biometrics completed - May 7th (Early Walk-in)

Biometrics completed - May 7th (Early Walk-in)

Interview scheduled notification - November 12th (via email - waiting to receive letter in mail for actual Interview date)

Interview completed & Case approved - November 17th

Naturalization Ceremony (in January 2020 - waiting on notice)
