We got our NOA1 back on April 5th and our case got sent to Potomac. Seems like one of the faster centers, but I do see that the timeline estimation keeps getting pushed back little by little. Wishing a fast and easy process to everyone.

Hi! I am just sending out my I-130 package this week, to the Chicago lockbox from Abu Dhabi. How do you know what service center your petition will be assigned to? Is it random?

hello SallySaidHi,

You will receive a notice (mail ou postmail) and it will be written on it. :) I think it is totally random. We aim to live in California and we got Texas.

Take care, Alix

Hi

Yes, from what I understand what Alix said is correct. Some people believe it is based on the state the USC is from, but it appears to be quite random and difficult to predict. I wish you good luck with your petition.

Thank you.

One thing I would like to suggest is that if you are both living in the UAE, try to use a US mailing address of a family member or friend.

I was living overseas with my husband in Israel and on our first application, I put an Israeli mailing address. The application ended up getting rejected and it took a very long time to get it back and start over.

If one of you is living in the US, then never mind. I just wanted to make sure just in case.

Thanks! Yes we are both living here and I will be using my brother's address as the mailing address and where we intend to move to upon arrival (until we get settled and find our own place).

Hi,

Just wondering if the processing times for the Nebraska service center are accurate.  I mean 10-13 months is a very long time before it gets to the NVC, then another 4-8 weeks at the NVC, then another month at the Consulate.  Anyone else feel as frustrated as I do about all the misinformation regarding immigration that you read about in the press from various individuals?  🙄

Sadly, they are accurate. Currently it seems they are approving petitions filed july 2018. You can check the Nebraska filers thread

They seem accurate. As a comparison, Texas is now approving petitions filed in October 2018... but it comes and goes (Texas used to be very slow for some reason).

You know it just doesn’t make sense to me why it takes so long. I read in a report that 60 days of the waiting time was for FBI background check, but what’s the rest of the time for?  Our attorney said that it should only take 5-7 months for the USCIS. She said her longest one was 7 months and that was with problems.  So...I hope she’s right but somehow I think she’s wrong.

I wonder if they will transfer some of the Nebraska cases to some of the other service centers.

Anyone know if you can get a Congressman to influence them into sending the case to one of the other service centers?

I don't know but too reply to your other question : it takes them 60 days to do the background check, yes and the rest of the time is the huge waiting list... They are probably understaffed and there is a lot of demand. 6-8months is really what to expect. Don't worry, time flies and you will be fine.

Thanks...I've been traveling back and forth to Morocco for the last year and really am getting tired of being separated from my husband.  I leave in 2 weeks to travel back to the States and then it will be another 3 months before I get to go to Morocco again.  Please don't get me wrong.  I know how fortunate I am to have a job and ability to travel back and forth.  It just get's very old on all sides of it.

I was really hoping the next time I come, that he would be able to travel back to the States with me...doesn't look like that will happen.  I guess on the brighter side, I will have tons of frequent flyer miles to use to go on vacation or use to fly to France...can't use them to Morocco.
