Hi everyone, I'm Cherise (not Chersie lol) from Ghana and live in Ghana , (hubby lives in USA) a newbee and glad to be part of such a warm and supportive community. My husband and I got married in Feb 2018 and filed Form I-130 on 14 May 2018. We received a NoA receipt on 28 May 2018 and still awaiting approval from USCIS Nebraska Center. It's been 10 months since we filed.

We're currently preparing for the NVC stage in wait and I'd like to know how form DS-261 is filed. Did most of you who have been through this stage use an Agent from NVC or was your petitioner your Agent. Thank you

Welcome Cherise. DS-261 is no longer a thing (at least not for CR1). Once NVC gives you your case number and invoice ID and you log in, you will see the first thing it tells you to do is pay the AOS and IV fees. Once these payments have cleared, you will be allowed to begin filling out the DS-260. But the DS-261 is no longer required. Then you will upload the financial and civil documents.

Since when?  I thought they still required it to be completed for a CR-1 case unless you have an attorney.......(note:  It's been 2.5 years since my case was at NVC...LOL)

I don't know when they stopped requiring it but they don't ask  you to establish an agent anymore. When you log into CEAC now, there's a drop down menu where you choose Application, Petitioner, Attorney or Third Party. That's it.

As I remember, that has always been there.

Okaayyy but what I'm saying is, the DS-261 isn't there anymore.

if you ask anyone who's gone through the process recently, they will tell you they weren't required to complete a DS-261. Including myself.

You're welcome.

I just logged into my CEAC and copied the Summary Information

Summary Information

The National Visa Center (NVC) has received your approved immigrant visa petition from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Before NVC can schedule your visa interview, you need to complete the following steps:

  • Step 1: Pay fees.
  • Step 2: Complete an Immigrant Visa (IV) Application (form DS-260).
  • Step 3: Submit required financial and civil documents.

After all required documents are submitted, if something is missing or incorrect, NVC will send you an email to check your CEAC Messages. You can access your CEAC Messages by clicking "View Messages". To verify the email addresses on your case and provide updates as required, click ‘Edit’ in the Contact Information section

Yeah I did not have to choose an agent for my husband either.  I was stalking the website trying to find it and I could not locate it.
