IF your affidavit of support doesnt have the 1040 and W2 for 2006 bring them to the INTERVIEW!!! YOu will be asked for them, and this can save you a trip back to the embassy.

we just had our interview, all went well but we must go back to present these papers. SO to save fellow VJ members the hassel just have them ready, even if your interview was scheduled before tax filing period.

Yes, transcripts for 2006 are enough. If it is past the filing date, even if you filed an extension, you should have income verification available. If your filing isn't complete, bring your W2's and/or 1099's. Actually by early February we all have income verification for the last year, so they can ask for it.

This is weird - Bren did file his taxes but has NO income (only doing research), and, since we are in Canada, there are no W2s... does this also apply to our joint sponsor???? do tell!!!

Hi Len

We're in the same boat as you..... My wife is working in Canada for a Canadian company, but still filed a USA tax return for 2006. Because of the foreign tax credit, she didn't have to pay any USA taxes, just Canadian taxes. So we're gonna bring her Canadian and USA tax returns for 2006 with all slips from her USA derived investment income, and her Canaian employment income. We're gonna try and cover all our bases.

Matt

To many pronouns (this) and not enough nouns. What I'm saying applies to your joint sponsor is the requirement to substanciate income. Its right in the instructions. What did you think was weird? If there's nothing to prove the income is real, you might as well just gin up a fake person and fill out an I-864 in their name to sponsor you.

I don't understand what ideas you're asking for. Just get the documentation and have it at the interview if asked for.

Let me try to explain myself (I can be quite loopy, sorry about that) If I understand the instructions on form I-864 correctly, we need "transcripts of previous tax year" (2006) and optional transcripts for the three previous years (2002-2005). Nowhere in the form says we should attach W2s, does it? If it does, please correct me.

Our joint sponsor sent us his 1040's for all those years along with his transcripts, and he more than covers the 125% income line. I am quite inexperienced in this so please bear with me. We also have Bren's US and Canadian tax returns for those same years, but were not planning to bring the Canadian ones to the interview (again per instructions on I-864 itself).

So my question would be: is what we have already enough? Or do we need something else? I guess I'm confused by the OP my dear pushbrk, because you always give me sound advise!! Thanks my friend and I will wait for a response..

First, the transcripts are enough.

Second, a tax return is not complete without the W2's and/or 1099's. They don't ask for 1040's. They ask for tax returns. That means the whole enchilada.

Nevertheless the transcripts are even better. They show what the IRS has on file, so there's no need for any part of the tax return including no need for the W2's. Tax transcripts ARE verification of income.

kins,

If submiting a photocopy of the tax return, rather than an IRS tax transcript, then one needs to provide the complete return as submitted to the IRS. If the return included a W-2 then the photocopy for immigration purposes must include the W-2. If the return did not include a W-2 then one cannot submit something that never existed.

What documentation of your husband's foreign-earned income did he submit with his US tax return? Whatever it was, include it with the photocopy of the tax return that is submitted for immigration purposes.

As pushbrk wrote, "the whole enchilada", whatever the filling.
