It's great to see March EADs moving forward, current date for inquiry on USCIS is March 24th. We filed early on in April so I am really hoping we will hear something within the next 4 weeks or so. Crossing our fingers. My husband told me that he's feeling very depressed being unable to work for this long. I really wish I could help him more. I work full time and I'm in school full time so it's been really hard for me to find enough time to entertain him. He feels trapped in the house, lonely and depressed. I feel so sad for him and I don't know what to do. I keep telling him to stay positive and try to find little things to do to keep busy but I think not working just bleeds apathy into everything. I don't have many friends as it is, so it's not like I can introduce him to many people either. I dont want to get his hopes up and tell him it could be within the next month, because we all know how unreliable USCIS is. What are you or your spouses doing to pass time until getting a job? We're feeling hopeless here.

Hi there, has he started looking for jobs yet? I wouldn't wait until you get EAD to start applying because it would take quite a bit before you start to hear back for interviews. For me personally, I started job search as soon as we submitted our visa application package. My typical day would include researching into the job market in my area, looking into networking opportunities, scheduling meetings with recruiters, while working on some professional skills like coding, certifications, etc.

This period of time is hard for everyone involved, and my ambition and support from husband really got me going, and I just kept going. I hope that helps. Virtual hugs to you!

I assumed as much. The only people I have seen that have had luck with getting a license in Texas were still current on their I-94. Is your learner's permit expiration date tied to your I-94 expiration date? For us, the DPS lady said he could get one but it would expire when his I94 expires.

Hm.. I see... They didn't mention anything about my I-94. The expiration date in my learner's permit is one year after the issue date. I actually went in June.

My husband got his learner's permit, all we had to do was bring in the NOA1 for AOS, the I-94, SS card, and two documents showing TX residency. He took the written test and passed, and it expires in one year. The NOA1 would show lawful presence. His I-94 was expired at the time of the application, and there was no issue.

My I-94 expiration date is D/S (may remain in the United States so long as you maintain your nonimmigrant student status). I'm adjusting from F1.

The San Antonio one is usually packed, you have to wait 3+ hours to be seen, and they go by the pdf I posted earlier. The lady wanted proof of domicile longer than 3 months for him even though he had just come into the US less than a month ago. Then she said for me to provide domicile for 3+ months even though this is his license and has nothing to do with me lol (and ofc I didn't bring that paperwork because I wasn't expecting to prove for myself)

It might be worth the drive to visit the Austin branch if they allowed it there. Thanks!

We went to the DPS office in Denton, TX, where we live. The wait time is insane, but we were at least able to get it done. He's going to do the road test at a private school.

wow! This lady was really picky! Have you tried different dps centers? I heard in Austin there are some picky ones as well... people who work for the government usually are not happy with their work and say nonsense stuff...
The one I went was in 13730 Research Blvd, Austin, TX 78750

Ahh okay. What documents did you take for residency proof? We are just now moving to our own apartment so he will have a lease in his name and my car insurance has his name also as a non driver, but they are all less than 3 months.

He has a list of places he is going to apply. He is hesitant to apply to certain places that he really wants to work at, for fear of squandering the opportunity if he ends up still not being approved and being in a weird limbo state. He does random online courses in stuff related to his engineering degree in order to keep his mind dusted off! Networking stuff is hard for now because he can't drive and our public transport is pretty dangerous.

Also thanks everyone else who replied for a lot of great replies! We are hanging in there!

wow! This lady was really picky! Have you tried different dps centers? I heard in Austin there are some picky ones as well... people who work for the government usually are not happy with their work and say nonsense stuff...
The one I went was in 13730 Research Blvd, Austin, TX 78750

Yes, overall it was a really bad experience. I'm gonna try the one in Boerne and see if we have better luck there, but if we don't I'm going to try that one you went to. It would be so helpful if he was able to drive. Thank you!

Ahh okay. What documents did you take for residency proof? We are just now moving to our own apartment so he will have a lease in his name and my car insurance has his name also as a non driver, but they are all less than 3 months.

We used the car insurance, the envelope that his SS card arrived in, and the envelope that the NOA1 arrived in. Since those are sent by government agencies, they are accepted, (for Texas) and they are post marked with the date they were mailed. These showed residency for the last 90 days.
