Hi, please I know we can't work in USA on k1visa but I would like to know if someone can have a training with an organization and driving license during AOS? Thanks

Hi I think as long as you don’t get paid I think it’s ok.

There is absolutely no issue with driving, assuming you can work your way through your state specific maze to get DL. I do not believe there is any issue with training either as long as it is not internship type thing. E.g. you are not taking a spot that someone who could be paid could occupy.

HI all!  My husband and I just filed our package yesterday!  We're excited to be joining this group but now, after reading, a bit anxious because we filed via FedEx 😬  Really hoping this won't cause too many delays....

It's possible they're adjusting from something other than a K-1, or they made an error.

Would you have any advice for my situation? I have not requested OPT because I was worried to get some sort of conflict or have my application jeopardized.

There's no problem in applying for OPT. It is actually recommended since the EAD for OPT follows the 90-day rule but the AOS EAD doesn't. Meaning that you will have your OPT EAD WAY faster than the AOS one.

It is also good idea to keep your F1 status while your AOS is pending. I would recommend you to consider applying for OPT asap (if you're eligible) since your application is still on the limbo (OPTs are sent to the lockbox in Phoenix).

Talk to a lawyer or your DSO about your case.

we are in the same boat, we mailed our package via FedEx and it was delivered and signed for on the 12th April... and since that day we haven't heard a single thing, no rejection, no texts, no emails, no letter.. no cashed Check..

....just nothing.

We emailed the lockbox email address but got not response... the auto-reply says takes them up to 30 *BUSINESS* days to respond. 😐

we also called USCIS... spoke to a tier 2 agent and she was very rude and dismissive and just told us that ".. it take up to 45 days to hear from them after sending an application and to just wait..."

Today is day 14 since FedEx delivery and we are just still anxiously waiting.... I understand the emotional roller-coaster you are going through... we are going through it too now.

Our package also reached them (via USPS) on the 12th and we haven't heard a thing, no charge to my credit card, nothing. I guess based on your experience I can conclude calling would be a waste of time... Lockbox Limbo is the worst.

Just a reminder, in some states (I know for sure AZ and TX) the driver license will have the same expiration as the immigration document shown to prove legal status. That means that if you use a visa with a short expiration date, such as a K-1, you will have to renew your license in a matter of months.

My experience with calling has been pretty much a waste of time so far, all they tell me is to wait because "...it takes up to 30-45 days..." to hear back from them. But I wouldn't tell anyone else not to call them, who knows, you may be lucky and get to speak with someone more helpful..🤷‍♂️

None of our emails to the lockbox email address have been responded to either, so still there in Lockbox limbo,,,,still waiting.........and waiting...............and waiting....😕

Hello all!

Sent I-485, I-131, and I-765 to the lockbox on 4/18 via FedEx. Signed for on 4/19, received 3 texts on 4/22, showing all as received. Hard copy NOA for all three on 4/27.

Good luck everyone!

For people that have not received a reply this might help.

I sent in the application on 04/03/2019 (Chicago lockbox) and they received it on 04/05/2019. However, I heard nothing until 04/25/2019 when the check was cashed (no texts/emails/NOAs). I spoke with USCIS today and the lady informed me that the NOAs were mailed out on 04/24/2019 and also gave me the receipt numbers so that I could track the application. She did say that 20 between receiving the application and mailing NOAs is not uncommon.

Thank you for you response.

I will try to contact a lawyer about that. I noticed you are also adjusting your status from F1. Have you requested OPT as well?

I finally heard back from my package. USCIS was able to track my husband's name on their systems (for some reason, not my name). They said they sent a RFE to us..... I noticed in the inform delivery that it is coming today. I think it might have something to do with the i-864 form. I think my husband forgot to put the additional files associated with this form.....

Yes, I requested the OPT STEM extension a month before sending my AOS package. I have both processes pending right now.
