Replacement GC while outside of the US

I know I have read about this a little but really needing the advice of other senior members who are much more knowledgeable on this matter.

So my husband Zian just landed in the Philippines for a 10 day trip, unfortunately I couldn't go with him, but he FaceTimed me almost immediately once he got there and informed me he can't find his GC. He always carries it with him so this was surprising. He just has his Philippines passport and US drivers license. Yes, I know, why he didn't visually confirm he had it prior to the trip I don't know but that time came and passed now.... So he has his coworkers looking at his work to see if by chance it somehow fell out at work. He is currently triple checking all his luggage and everything. And I have looked through our apartment. So far no word on it being found... so main thing is, what, if I do indeed need to apply for a replacement GC for him, how do I do it? Can I do it for him or would I have to send him the forms and he send them back with original signature? I figure the embassy there can't do much for him or is it possible for them to simply get him a one time travel document?? I am getting this info now so because he was supposed to come back April 10th, and unless it's found obviously I don't think he will make that flight and have to delay it.... I know @geowrian , @Greenbaum , @Cyberfx1024 and others can assist with the proper info, but this might also be a good thread for future people.

Sorry to hear he lost his card! My husbands wallet was stolen overseas. He has to go to the Embassy and get a travel foil- around 600$ and then you need to file for a replacement GC- another 600$ apx. Its a costly situation and I feel ya! He should be able to get the travel boarding foil by the 10th if he acts now.

If you find it you can FedEx it to him otherwise he will have to make an appointment with us embassy so he can come back and after that you will have to report the other one missing with uscis and pay and apply for a replacement card (which won't come in time for ROC) but you will have the papers that it has been applied for.

Yes, exactly I knew would be pricey but, not much can do about that now unfortunately. Still holding out hope we find it and can FedEx it to him, usually only takes 2-3 days for $80-100 which is a lot cheaper obviously. Thanks for the info.

Yes hoping we find it still, FedEx is much cheaper than replacement costs but, can't do much about that now. Always something happening haha.

@Ben&Zian I can't add more to the conversation. There seems to me that there has been some good suggestions offered. I've never dealt with a situation like this so I am learning just as you are. I do have the USCIS website for the I-131a located here: https://www.uscis.gov/i-131a Certainty would like to know the outcome of your ordeal so if you can post when this is all said and done it would be a good learning experience for some of us.  BTW, do you have a copy of his GC that you can email to him so in the event he needs to present something, at least he will have a copy to present.

Thanks for the link I will check it out. Still waiting for confirmation that he indeed does not have it or can't find it there nor his work mates can't find it at his work. He does have a photo of the GC, least front I think so that could be useful. And yes, will update with what ever happens, figure be good info for others also.

When you find the GC or get a new one, make and keep photocopies of front AND back.

Good luck with the situation.

@TBoneTX Honest question - what benefit does it have? I was in same shoes (stolen wallet overseas) and while there was always 'provide photocopies of your GC (if available)' I still had to get boarding foil and new GC, paid through the nose and in general photocopies didn't really do anything to expedite or make process easier?

You need a copy of the card to file ROC or the 797 showing you lost it and are waiting on the replacement.

To all, @Greenbaum @TBoneTX @Georgia16 @username_taken @chefaleslie , well luckily did not have to endure the process of replacement as we found his GC and am sending it FedEx today so he should hopefully get it by Monday there in the Philippines. Thanks again though everyone for the advice.

Glad to hear this outcome. !! I think we can all relate to the emotions of the last few days. Hoping he can now settle and enjoy the rest of his visit !
