congratulations for getting the ROC part done, I think you have passed the main hurdle, now as soon as their offices open up, you will get biometrics and then interview and then oath soon, depends on that backlog though but first they got to open the 1 on 1 interviews or start doing Online Zoom Interviews

How likely is it that USCIS will do Zoom interviews for ROC and N-400? I remember from the AOS, it was pretty intense with taking my fingerprints and having me and my husband swear to tell the truth. Maybe at the ROC and N-400 stage it's no longer as serious/less prone to fraud? Not sure, but would be interesting to see them do Zoom interviews for those applications.

EAD/AP: 02/14/17 - 05/26/17 (101 days)

AOS: 02/14/17 - 06/20/17 (126 days)

ROC: 05/19/19 - 04/23/20 (340 days)

N-400: (249 days)

9/13/2020- Application filed online

9/21/2020 - NOA1 received

12/10/2020 - NOA2 biometrics reuse

2/2/2021 - NOA3 N-400 interview scheduled for 3/16/2021

3/8/2021 - NOA4 N-400 interview cancelled

3/15/2021 - NOA5 N-400 interview re-scheduled

4/27/2021 - Interview (approved)

4/28/2021 NOA6 Oath ceremony scheduled

5/20/2021 - Oath ceremony

I would say they'll require even more vetting at the naturalization stage. Allowing someone to become a citizen seems like much bigger deal than allowing someone to get a greencard.

I don't think there will ever be any internet interviews for naturalization. That process is too important and they need to know for sure nobody is behind the camera providing the applicant with the answers to the questions. It would be way too easy to cheat with an online interview.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too. Like you mentioned, I feel like online interviews give room for so many variables and opportunities for people to be and do dishonest things. Even for my AOS interview, the officer was observing me and my husband intently and watching my body language and answers. I think meeting in person is an unspoken part of the process.

Glad to see you've already applied for naturalization!

it is important just because we have been told so, new normal is changing. If you are providing evidence for a 4 years of relationship, and future plans, have kids together, I do not think it should matter how we answer civic questions, or know how to write in english, chances are everyone knows that by then, plus how is it fair that 10 minutes of interview will tell them what 4-5 years of evidence didn't say. My guess is that people who fail in civic test, eventually passed it in 2-3 times, so it was more work for IOs and wastage of petitioner's money and time. You have been through so much, will you or anyone here on VJ let a civic test deter u, I believe no. plus it is just a 100 questions to remember and 80 of them we know on top of our head right now without even reading. I will not cheat and I believe whoever here in genuine will do the same.

@rosecloudIf these IOs were doing due diligence, we won't have years and years of backlog cases, they're just like every other government employee, taking their time till it is time to go home or enjoy the weekend. Let the USCIS get privatized, petitioners will be hearing about their case the next day,,,

I'm not talking about what is fair or what matters or doesn't matter, what makes sense and what doesn't. To you or me. I'm talking about what is required and the civics test is there for a reason and has been for a long time. Yes things change, but that's something that won't change during our immigration journey. The test will still be an important thing to USCIS and the govt, it's not going to happen online anytime soon. Likely not in our lifetime.

Some people will cheat. Everywhere, all the time. It's just how it is. Online interviews would make that ridiculously easy for those people.

Yes, you're right, the in-person meetings probably tells them a lot about a person than just reading the answers on a form.

Thank you. I was first thinking of waiting with the N-400 until all the craziness with the virus is done and over with, when offices are up and running like normal again. But who knows how long that'll take. It was so easy to submit it online too, I was very pleasantly surprised. Highly recommend the online filing for the N-400!

Question for anyone that filed the N400 using the online form - are you able to upload additional evidence like photos, copies of leases, etc.?

Yes there is an option to upload those documents.

Yes I was able to upload all my PDFs but they all disappeared when logging out. So I had to upload everything again once I was ready to submit the application, no logging out in between. I used Microsoft Edge per recommendation (I couldn't find and download Internet Explorer, so I assume it changed name to Microsoft Edge?). After submitting I can now see all my uploads in the "snapshot" and under the documents tab on my account.

Many others have not had the same luck, after submitting all the uploads had disappeared again.

I had the same problem too. All uploads gets deleted if logged out before final submission. I had to do twice in order to complete. Seems like system bug.

Yes, definitely a bug. A very common one, seems like a ton of people have the same issue with the uploads. Just got to hope that USCIS is aware of the bug and doesn't wrongfully deny anyone because of "missing documents" such a copies of greencards, divorce decrees, tax returns etc.

I get that thinking about the long wait ahead of us is frustrating, but at the end of the day, US citizenship is not a right just because you submit an application, pay the fee and have a 4 year long relationship, future plans and kids. If it didn't matter how we answer the civics questions or if we can read and write in English, those wouldn't be aspects of the N-400 process.

I don't think there will be years and years of backlogs after all of this, at least I hope not! The new normal for USCIS is more likely to be things like implementing strict social distancing rules in their offices, rigorous cleaning schedules, gloves, masks, etc. rather than taking their N-400 interviews online.

Unfortunately, I got a notification that I have received an RFE. I am anxious to see what the USCIS feels is missing. Above is everything I included as my evidence. Have not received an RFE before, so this is new to me.

Looks pretty detailed! Good job. My timeline is around the same time as yours. They received my I-75Q April 30th and NOA date is 5/3/19. I have not recieved anything since then.... So just waiting. Good luck with the RFE.
