The attorneys checked the box of my actual marital status as MARRIED instead of single.

So the officer thought i wanted to marry , but i am already married...

They want me to send official divorce decrees.

I have never been married lol I am only 22 years old.

Now i have to ask my home country for official documents proving that i have never been married, and that i am not married at the moment.

Time and time again yet another outrageous example of why not to use a lawyer. They really messed you up. What do they plan to do to fix it? Seems like a certified letter from your lawyer stating they made an error on your marital status would work. I would be furious and standing on my lawyer's desk.

The french consulate recommended me an attorney, and she told me that sadly a letter of apology might not be sufficient and it is more safe to ask the consulate to issue an official certificate. (To prove I am single and I have never been married) It will just take a little time to have the certificate ready as they want me to give a  new original birth certificate ( it takes time to receive them in france and they are dated).

That is the best way of handling this. Leave the lawyer out of it. I recommend  you go to the governing body that can give you a document to prove that you were never married. Create a cover letter to include with the return.  Include a statement what happened as what the lawyer did.

You should be fine.

Yes true but seems a refund would be in order. That ordeal really chaps me and I'm just reading it not living it!

Does anyone find themselves checking the case status on USCIS multiple times a day, even though we know it is not reliable, at best...

I just learned from here that’s it’s not reliable but I still check at least once a day, both sites!

Nothing wrong with that, but you must be able to stop if it starts to cause you any excess heartache and stress.
