Hi guys! I hope you could shed some light in this...

I mailed my AOS package last May 23rd and it was received at the Chicago lockbox and signed on May 24th. I was hoping all would go well until now when I read in a certain thread that the A# is found in the fiancee petition approval letter, the thing is that in my AOS paperwork, I put n/a in the space provided for the A# since I don't have any idea that I already have it. Beore filing the form though, I called the uscis call center and they said just put n/a in the A# if you don't have it.

I have asked some questions here before filling out my forms but I never bothered to ask about A# since I thought the uscis call center people knew what they are talking about. Now I know I will be put on RFE, I am waiting for my RFE letter now instead of my NOA1.. <_<

My question is that do I need to wait for my RFE letter before sending them my forms with A# on it? Or is it alright to send it to them now since I knew what I missed? I also wanna know, if your put on RFE, do you need to send the whole package again? or would they state what they just need for you to send them?? How do I file for a reply to RFE? I mean what should be the letter-header??

Sorry guys, just getting nervous now.. Thanks a lot!!

You will get your NOA1 first, then an RFE if thye need something. Don't bother to send anything unasked for, it never catches up with the original petition.

If you get an RFE, it will say what is needed & where to send it.

Hi, if you had sent copies of your 'fiancee petition approval letter' with your AOS paperwork, then USCIS would find the A# easily.

Wait what they say.

I even read that failure to do things as they request can cause denial, send what they ask in one time and only if they ask. They don't expect anything added and sent from you on your own knowledge.

sweetangeltheresa,

You won't get an RFE for this. You are likely to get another A#.

What Yodrak is saying is not a blessing. It's not a good idea to have multiple A#'s. Your best bet is that your adjudicator is astute and will obtain your A# from the Notice of Action (I-797) NOA2 you sent along with your AoS petition. If they do assign you a new A#, it won't be the end of the world but will just be more confusing as then your wife will have multiple A#s in their system. It's better to have one A# throughout this entire immigration/naturalization process.

I really have no advice for you but I was confused too. They really should put that somewhere in the instructions that we get for filing AOS. I ended up guessing that the A# on my K-1 visa was what I needed to put there but again, I was not sure. It's confusing cuz one minute they refer to it as an A# and the next, alien registration number. After filling out my paperwork and then freaking out because I put my A# on the forms, my husband did a search on the internet and found a site that tells you where to find your A#.

Anyhow, point of my post is that it is confusing and people are already all worried about filling it out correctly. Can you call them or write them? I would write a letter stating that it was unclear to me what my A# was but that I just figured out what it is and would like it appended to my application forms.

LOL, nevermind. This thread is a bit old! LOL
