So the government should set an artificial wage floor?  Maybe price caps should be on the list as well.  For being an economics major, AOC seems to be oblivious to the concept of supply and demand and what effects government action like minimum wage and price ceilings may have on the overall economy.

I didnt say that.

I think we all agree no one working 40 hours per week should not be able to afford the basic necessities of life.  I think we can also agree , that working families should go bankrupt and lose everything they own , becuse somone got sick

What i never said. was how to get there . A good start is low unemployment and encouraging programs that reward  work over  welfare and stop generations after generations of spitting out govt subsided babies

Also stop illegal immigration which hurts the lower incomes the most. Odd Democrats support that and the people who are guaranteed the democratic vote are hurt the most by it.

an even better start would be to allow people to not have as much debt out of college, not saying give everyone college for free (certainly not "liberal arts" or lawyers, but i would think if you start with things like teachers, doctors, and expand for trade schools so people who dont want to go to college can still learn a craft like being an auto mechanic or electrician or something like that, it creates more opportunities, disincentivize companies from shipping jobs overseas, even things like call center jobs

the bottom line is that the more disposable income people have, the more they consume, whether it be durable goods, food, going out to eat, whatever, this in turn drives demand, and with higher demand, you create the need for more supply. and more supply creates more jobs to fill the supply. i really dont understand why no one gets this

it doesnt help when places like wal mart are getting rid of one of the few positions that a disabled person can work and make an honest wage

i know a lot of single parents who want to work but they cant, because they cant afford childcare. if you can find a way to fix this, i think it will help a ton

a blanket minimum wage will never work, simply because even at a proposed $15/hour, that 15 goes a lot further in a place like Des Moines than it would in Los Angeles... it needs to be somehow tied to that area's cost of living.

Actually it is not that rare for food to be transported long distance by air, the article suggests that it is not that uncommon for fairly basic stuff to be imported, I know the same thing happens in China. Here the amusement was long distance take away.

I would add that if you are on public assistance birth control is mandatory

My best buddy has a dead beat stepson. He has been in constant trouble since he was 14 he is about 29 or so now. He gets caught doing theft by taking and gets several years probation. He flunks two pea tests and gets sent to state rehab for a year leaving behind a wife and 2 month old. So he gets out and works part time at the rehab place praising being clean and does construction. He gets the wife pregnant again and   gets caught again theft by taking and flunks urine test.

They get the wife a decent  job which she screws up and is back in fast food. He is back in rehab pending sentencing. Baby on the way mommy making min wage daddy in jail or on the way. She was already on public assistance and they made the decision to have a kid. That has to stop. Its not the kids fault. The first kid is an angel at age 4 but you know the behavioral issues will start creeping in

this is the thing that could be called overreach

in theory, i don't disagree, but this could also lead down a different slippery slope

because you know someone is gonna take it farther and just say well if you want assistance, you get sterilized.....

Reminds me of China and the things they do.

I look at as a cost that the wealthy Countries can bear, as long as they remain wealthy and the abuse does not get too out of hand.

Obviously that has an end date.

Multiple slopes.

What if one needs public assistance for only a couple of months, for example?

What if one is a racist or bigot for suggesting that a member of an oppressed group submit to birth control?

Would those past menopause also have to be birth-controlled, for "equal treatment under the law"?

Multiple slopes.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

1, If one needs assistance for a few months and has ever had a child getting public assistance, then yes

2. You are not a liberal democrat. You are already a racist

3. Do I get use OBGYN visits paid for, as a man.  (your jokes make more sense than #3)   Note I gave rep points for last post!
