Hello everyone...

I applied for my naturalization, form N400. I was overseas when my interview was scheduled and could not attend it. I had to call USCIS from overseas to request to reschdule it and explain my situation, so I got a new appoinment  but was not able to attend it as well for the same reason. That new appoinment was about 20 days only from the previous appt. I had to go overseas and stay for about 3 months due to some family circumstances and could not afford to change the plane tickets or buy new ones cuz I was with my kids.. Tickets were so expensive.. I did not come back till early Feb, 2019..  So last week I received a notice from USCIS notifying me that my case was administratively closed. Is it worth to write a request to reopen it and mail it to my local field office? If so, how long does it take for the local field office (Jacksonville, Fl field office) to respond? And do they usually accept the request?

Hope to get a response asap.. Many thanks in advance!

You can get a new interview scheduled by mailing them a letter requesting a new date. You may want to mention why you couldn’t attend the interview in that letter. When you will get the interview date depends on how busy your field office is.

Only if one doesn’t make such request within a year of the administrative closure, N400 application is permanently closed.

Thank you so much for your response! I did send them a written request to reopen my case and have explained in it the reason of my non-appearance for my interview. I hope to hear back from them soon..

Another thing to keep in mind is that your several months travel between your initial filing and the motion to reopen may affect meeting the physical and continuous presence requirements, depending on your previous travel history....especially if you were out of the US for more than 6 months on one trip.

Well, this is my second time that I go to my country since I came to the US in 2014. The first time was in feb 2017 and I only stayed for about a month. And the second one was last year and I had to stay for about three months ( as mentioned before, for some family circumstances).. Hopefully I hear something back from them soon.. Thanks for your reply :)
