Hi! We got our 1-130 approved after 7 weeks - much later than expected.

Now next is the interview at the Consulate at Mumbai.

How long is the ideal time to stay in Mumbai to finish all the processings?

And how long does it take for the passport to be given back once taken after interview? Will it be posted to our address or we have to stay in Mumbai and pick it up once the visa is attached to the passport?

Depends on what you intend to do in Mumbai? if you're only going there for the interview then just one day. If you're also doing bio-metrics in Mumbai then it'll depend on your appointment that you'll make at the ustraveldocs website. It should be at least one day before your interview. We did our bio-metrics & medical both in Delhi so we just went to Mumbai consulate for the interview.

If you're approved without any RFE, your passport will be kept and depending on what method of delivery you choose while making the appointment on ustraveldocs, you will either pick up your passport from one of the consulates around the country that you choose or it'll be couriered to you.

Minor correction...

There is no RFE at this stage. It would be a visa refusal under INA 221(g), pending additional documents.

So we can book the biometrics and medical exam at Hyderabad and the interview would need to be in Mumbai right?

I tried to look at the available appointments but I keep getting "There are currently no appointments available".

Is this normal or am I only getting this?

Yes you can. You'll need to check the website often to make an appointment. Don't do it too much because you can get locked out of your account for 72 hrs or so before you can check again (website will give you a warning beforehand). I had better luck checking for appointments really late in the night (between 12AM to 3AM India time) but YMMV.

You are truly so helpful!

I just want to make sure I'm doing the right thing.

1. Get PCC

2. Submit DS-260

3. Take care of the Affidavit I-864

3. Book appointments for Medical and Biometrics

4. Book Interview Appointment

Am I missing anything here?

Nothing missing. Just don't forget to take the DD when you go for the interview. Go for it. And good luck!

And how much do we note for the DD for to give at the US Consulate? That's the only TIME place where we pay again right (after I-130)?

We have our Biometrics (this includes fingerprints too?) on Sept 22 and medical appointment on Sept 23 and interview on Sept 26th. Hopefully this is enough spacing between the appointments.

I read this "Fees should not be paid to the NVC or paid at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate where you have your visa interview unless specifically requested. Applicants will be provided with instructions by the NVC on where and when to pay the appropriate fees. Do not send payments to the NVC’s address in Portsmouth, New Hampshire." at https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/family-immigration/immigrant-visa-for-spouse.html#6 and am slightly confused on where to pay what.

Also I read "After you submit the DS-261, there may be a slight delay before the CEAC system allows you to proceed to the next step, which is to pay the $120 affidavit of support fee (2019 figure), if necessary, and the visa application fee ($325 for family" -- so really confused on how and when and where to make what payments.

Could anyone please help? Would really appreciate whatever info I can get.

$325 per DS-260. Ud you are DCF you do not file a DS-261.

After approval of visa you will need to pay the green card processing fee of $220.

For DCF it is $325 converted to INR according to ustraveldocs website exchange rate and in form of DD drawn in favor of US Consulate General, Mumbai and you have to take this at the time of your interview (Visa Interview Fee: https://in.usembassy.gov/visas/immigrant-visas/paying-fees/). You don't need to pay any affidavit support fee.

The fee of $220 which is mentioned on ustraveldocs (http://www.ustraveldocs.com/in/in-iv-visaapplyinfo.asp#uscisivfee) is the Immigrant Visa Fee which you pay AFTER you have been approved and have your visa with your A-number. You pay that directly on the USCIS website. That fee ideally must be paid before entering the US so that your green card can be produced without any hitch.

Thank you so much Kuneesa! You're our savior!

We just submitted our DS-260 (this is the only form to be filled and submitted right?) and got the following reply: "

Your Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration Application (Form DS-260) was sent to the National Visa Center (NVC) for review. However, NVC will not review your Form DS-260 until they have received the required financial and civil documents that you must also submit. If you have not sent NVC those items, please do so now. Visit http://nvc.state.gov (English) or http://nvc.state.gov/espanol (Spanish) and review Steps 4-6 for instructions.

NVC will review your DS-260 IV application, financial, and civil documents upon receipt of all documents. If the documents you submitted are insufficient or incomplete, NVC will send instructions on how to correct your submission. NVC cannot schedule your visa interview until your supporting documentation is complete."

My doubt is - I already have my biometrics and interview booked and will be paying the DD (as you mentioned in the previous post) at the consulate itself. Am I missing out anything serious here?

Got our DS-260 submitted, Affidavit documents in place, booked the appointments for biometrics, medical and interview and will have the DD done right at the time of interview.  Hope I'm not missing anything major here.

Please help! :)
