Its not likely to slow down the processing of your case, but it could delay the receipt of any notices. Especially if you change your address right before your case is adjudicated.

Are you the US Citizen or the Beneficiary?

If you are the US Citizen, I would not bother to change the address, provided that you can still retrieve/have your mail forwarded. You can change the address later in the process.

If you are the Beneficiary, wait until the case is at the NVC, to ensure packet 3 arrives from the Embassy.

If the address is already changed, advise your Fiance to check both mailboxes, just in case.

Address changes do not affect the approval/processing, just document delivery. Does your Fiance have a USCIS online account? If not, have him set one up. You can track your case progress.

USCIS has a "Do Not Forward" policy so the mail will be returned to their office as undeliverable. The Petitioner needs to change his address ASAP because the NOA2 is required for filing of the adjustment of status.

I will clarify what I meant:

Have your mail forwarded, means forwarded by the person at the old address. As in, a new package. Having lived in several places, including overseas, this method is quite effective.

Up to the OP, but they should know that the USCIS mis-information line is notorious for fouling up the most basic items. That is why I advised what I did.

I am confused here (nothing new  ). I am the beneficiary and I am in the process of selling my home and moving to a rental apartment while I wait for my Visa. I am going to be out by July 1st. Nothing has been approved yet.

Do I need to submit a change of address? What if anything gets mailed directly to me as the beneficiary?

You should have your address changed yes. Once approved, your petition will be sent to the embassy and they will send you packet 3. Even if you tell the USCIS of your new address, you may also want to contact the consulate with your new address as well.

If he does not receive an acknowledgement stating they have received the change of address information he should call them again.

There are many reasons why some cases get approved before others. Changing the address is not one of them. Try not to worry so much. You'll drive yourself crazy.

Like Dan & Gemvita said, you need to change your address because you will begin receiving envelopes telling you your next steps. If I recall correctly, the first one (called Packet 3 on VJ) tells you what documents to prepare and provides all your medical exam information. When you have done all that you will send them your checklist. Then the next one you receive will be Packet 4, which will be your interview date. Things may have changed since I did mine, though, so don't take this as gospel.
