Hi, I Applied for adjustment of status I-485 & I-765 at the beginning of September 2018 (came here on K1) We forgot to apply for travel parole I-131 together with original application, so we filed it separately at the end of December 2018. On February 1,2019 received RFE, on February 14 USCIS received the evidence. Today, March 23, I received a letter saying that my travel parole is approved, even though I applied for it not so long ago. Still no news about my work authorization.. I’ve submitted an out of processing times form. I thought travel parole & work authorization come in 1 card. Apparently not in my case.. why not? Did this happen to anyone? It seems a bit odd to me.

If you file them together they come in 1 card. If you apply them separately, they come separately. You use it the same way.

Thanks for the answer. I guess my main concern is that they’ve approved the application that I filed much later rather than approving work authorization which I filed in September

Why? It’s a gift. Lots of people waited 8-10 months to get that approved, some has to cancel their wedding plans. At least now you have the a ability to travel.

If you ask me why it happened this way, I don’t think even USCIS can tell you. They work in mysterious ways that even confusing to themselves.

Hello,

The exact same scenario happened to me (check my timeline below), my AP was approved before my EAD even though I applied for the AP after the work permit.

I remember that I called and even talked to a tier 2 they were as surprised that the AP was approved that fast and before the work permit but told me all I could was just wait for the work permit to come. It should come in the next few weeks in my opinion.

So at this point unless you applied for your work permit more than 6 months ago, all you could is wait, if it has been more than 6 months then you should file a service request for outside of normal processing times and also if possible get in touch with your congressman/senator so that they can make a request on your behalf to see why your work permit is delayed.
