Bringing my son w/ tourist visa

Hi everybody!

I entered usa with a k1, didnt apply with my son (18 years old) because he doesnt want to move permanently to usa with me and my husband, he will start studying college in agost this year and i would love he could visit me here in the states, so the only option would be a tourist visa.

My question is what documents should we need to show to the consul, he is a student and lives with my family. I still could apply for him with a k2, (expires 1 year after i got my k1 visa) but it is not the case for him.

We will say the true during the interview, that we could have been applied for a k2 but he didnt want to move, and that he would only stay with me during his vacations and then he will come back to continue his studies in mexico. What are the chances to get it? or what other options do we have??

Any help would be really appreciate!!

If you intend to travel as a tourist, you should be able to explain and prove how and when you plan to travel, where you plan to stay, and how you will pay for the trip. United States law specifies that you should prove “that is it reasonable to suppose that you will return to your place of origin once you have completed your trip.” In order to comply with this requirement, it is suggested that you present original documents that support your claim of economic solvency. Depending on your particular situation, you may wish to present original, recent bank statements (letters from banks are not acceptable substitutes), receipts of payroll and the pink copy of the Social Security registration if you are employed, your stamped income tax return if you are a business owner, documentation regarding your business, your tax receipt if you own property, your professional I.D., etc. We reiterate: copies are neither acceptable nor necessary.

Thanks kit kat for the info!!

I was wondering, what documents should we take? Im assuming doctos as evidence that my son will enroll college in mexico, and what about bank statements? hes a student, maybe i should take my bank documents from usa?? a letter of invitation from my husband ?(hes a us citizen and i am a permanent resident) I think the most important evidence is that we could have started the process as a k2 and we still can, but hes not moving permanently here.

You need to prove that he will return to Mexico, therefore your bank statements won't help. Anything that shows his ties to the country and proves his need to return are important, so I would definitely include as much evidence as possible regarding his enrollment in college, start date, payment made, etc. A letter of invitation is not necessary and wouldn't do anything to prove his intention to return.

I wouldn't get your hopes up on this - it's very difficult for Mexicans to get tourist visas.
