So its been almost a month since my wife GC was approve and was mail to us. This morning around 9am 2 USCIS agents shows up at our house.

They introduce themselves as USCIS Investigator (Showed us their USCIS Badge) and ask to see my wife GC, Passport, and State DL. And also ask me for my State DL.

Here what they ask:

How long are we married?

How many child do we have?

Do we both own any cars?

Do we own or rent the house we live in?

After writing a few notes on a notepad/clipboard they just left in a all Black Ford Explorer.

Has anyone in the US experience this kind of home visit by USCIS? Is it common?

Yes with my neighbors a few years back. She is 25 years older than her husband and married him here when he overstayed his tourist visa. They did the same thing only after he received his permanent residence card. Except it was one officer only and same thing, took off in a black explorer. She expected an officer to show up any day and they did. He still got his 10 year green card though (I wont comment further on what he did). But they do it on some cases.

If they are true officers then isn't it kind of good to see they do check up on things? We say how unsettling this is but think about those who they do pottentially catch causing abklogs in immigration cases due to fraud! If you had nothing to hide and they walked away like you said, you have nothing to worry about. Just because ROC was approved that doesn't mean you're a U.S. citizen, maybe the case officer approved when they shouldn't have and they really just wanted to do a final check? Lots of scenarios but it sounds like you did fine and they walked away.

I'm a little fascinated by this thread. Just wondering, if this dd happen, is there anyone we could call to verify that they were, in fact, genuine agents?

I've never dealt with a police impersonator before, but we've had a 'life insurance' agent ask to see our SSNs (which of course we did not show her).

Now for the undressed police officers, they are known to be undercover police. You can definitely call the local Sheriff office and confirm the badge number of where they are from. This is the easiest part, and double check with the ID with photo if you want to go further so it match.

Sometimes they just check on random things.

Ya I found it more unsettling when they approved my husbands green card after 66 days because I had actually made a mistake on some of the proof I sent that wasn’t complete proof. I was like wow, they’re just handing them out?! I mean I get he just had a K- interview months before but still.

For me, I wouldn’t mind a check up but I would still want to verify that the person asking personal questions has the right to do so. That’s the biggest thing for me.

That must've been so creepy! I know a few years ago in NYC there were a lot of fake 'police officers' with badges etc. One NYC resident told me you're ALWAYS allowed to call the police station and verify that it's an actual cop by giving them the badge number. As long as you politely mention to the cop you're with you want to double check for your own safety, you're not doing anything wrong.

And yes, a few of those calls exposed that the badge numbers were not official police badge numbers and it were not actual cops. But I fully understand that when you're actually in that situation, this is not the first thing to pop in your head.

This was happening in Texas with people posing as cops and turning on fake lights and sirens. They usually were targeting women who were alone in the car to subdue them and hurt them if they pulled over.

So the news outlets started saying if you feel uncomfortable and you aren’t sure it’s a police officer to call and they can find out, if it’s not then they’ll send out someone to their locations.

Unsettling part of this experience, how to really identify if they were not fake USCIS Agents.

I mean anyone can show any badge and risk exposing your family members / kids to strangers by letting them in.

With my first husband, they made a surprise visit at 5 am. I live at the beach though, so I imagined they wouldn't miss a home visit there.

UPDATE

So I called USCIS and was transfer to a supervisor after I mention a home visit by USCIS. The USCIS Supervisor ask me for my case number and he told me that my ROC case is part of an investigation. And confirm I was visited by Homeland Security Investigation Officers. However my case has been CLEAR now. :)

Since my wife was from Laos a country with high fraud rate (Thats what they told me LOL!). They have to do a follow up home visit just to make sure its a real marriage. Since they have a few case where young woman would married a fake spouse (Fake spouse is paid money) but actually living with someone else.

Ahh okay, that makes sense. I know it must've been scary and unsettling, but ultimately, they're doing their jobs in the name of national security etc. PHEW. Honestly, I say take your wife out for a nice dinner and have a bottle of wine (or 2) to relax. 😝

The freaking paranoia on VJ.  Fake officers.  Everyone throwing it out there based on their research.  Or just throwing ####### against a wall to see what sticks and worrying people over nothing.

Thanks for coming back to clarify this.

Research or not I would still want proof they’re real officers.
