31% of American adults believe the Bible is Literal Word of God - Belief strongest among those without college degrees

Believe in the literal word of the Bible is strongest among those whose schooling stopped with high school and declines steadily with educational level, with only 20% of college graduates holding that view and 11% of those with an advanced degree.

One would want something to believe in when you're living in a country with no socialised health-care, social security, or any support for the poor, and the rest of the country is saying, "Not my problem! It's everyone for themselves." Either that or you join the military and be part of the "poverty draft."

That's cheap. Your blatant hatred of this country and its people infects every topic.

Don't feed the troll, it only encourages it.

someone wrote a book in God's name? He's gonna be pissed.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Well, as far as I'm concerned, if the Bible wasn't written with God's authority and guidance, then there is no God to be pissed about it anyway. As I said above:

If Jesus didn't rise from the dead, then the Bible isn't true.

If the Bible isn't true, then there is no God.

If there is no God, don't pi$$ me off!

To an extent, yes. If there is no God, then there is no source of absolute right and wrong, it's simply whatever you feel is right.

God gave us free will. That includes the ability to write an incorrect book in his name. Without free will we would be his puppets.

It just comes down to personal belief. Just because you may believe in God, doesn't mean you have to take the bible literally. If you go to church, it doesn't mean you can't have a modern view on the world. I identify myself as a Christian, but when it comes to my main belief, Christianity like many other religions has been muddied by man. I don't know what is truth and what is fiction. I just believe there is a higher power. It's my belief which I am sure differs from just about everyone else. If science proves otherwise, then so be it. My thought though is it never will.

Science doesn't have to be at odds with God.

Lucky that is what I mean. It is my belief that they can coexist.

Personally, I don't believe there was even such a person as Jesus. Don't be offended; I think all religions are made-up. I do sometimes envy the religious because they're so certain that there's someone up there looking out for them and that they'll go to a better place when they die. I can see the benefits in believing that. However, I don't and I can't force myself to.

I don't think anyone is offended because you don't believe Jesus existed.I do believe that whether Jesus was God or not, that He existed as a real person. Some people think He was just a person having no relation to God, and others like me believe He is God.

No one here is forcing you to try to believe(which you already know I think), we are just discussing our beliefs.

HA, that's a typical arrogant comment that implies you feel superior for not believing in God. Care to clarify?

Right, you have the right to believe or not believe...as long as do right by other people and basically try to be a good human being, then it's all good. Personally I think good people that are non believers just haven't had that special moment of encounter with God...but then that's just my opinion.
