POE

My fianceé clears customs in Canada is that considered the POE or do you have to also clear in the US for it to be valid.

When you clear US customs in a Canadian international airport (called pre-flight immigration), that is your POE and you don't have to worry about clearing it again once touching down on US soil. But when filling out forms like the AOS forms, you write in the first city where you touch down on US soil. For example, I went through Calgary, but my "place of last entry in the US" was Denver. Make sure the I-94 your fiance gets when activating the visa is written out this way as well.
