I'm sorry you're experiencing this. It's a horrible feeling.

Best piece of advice I saw on this subject was a guy bought his wife a moped when she was in this position. You'd be able to get out and the weather is getting warmer.

Depends on the state.....Example, I believe TN requires an adult to have a valid drivers license to operate a Mo-Ped.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

In Tenn, I think it classifies as a motorized bike.......I'm not sure how other states handle requirements.....

"Anyone with a valid Tennessee driver license may operate a motorized bicycle that is 50cc or less and no endorsement is required on the driver license."

Check into the SAVE program through USCIS. I've been to the DMV 4 times with my wife for the same reason, and the last time we visited they sent a request through that program. If they hassle you at DMV, have them submit a request through SAVE. Apparently they can give a response to the DMV explaining your situation so that you can move ahead with your drivers license.

Not sure if this works in all states but it's what I did. They did a check with Homeland Security and it took 10 days for clearance.

You know what... So I never heard of this program and I went checking what it was... Apparently the DMV sent in a SAVE request with my I94 number, but they didn't tell me about that... I'll probably go and check what it all is about, tomorrow or so.

Most places you can't get DL without the Green Card or the EAD

So try and go back when you have your EAD.

Go to San Francisco California and tell them you are an undocumented illegal alien.  They will give you a drivers license before you can say cheese!

NY too (why I could never live in NY or Cali) and some other states that’s why I worry most.

It means they did you a courtesy and ran your I94 number with DHS to double check that you definitely did not have legal status even though your I94 says you dont.

But apparently, following what Johnebertus said, if they get back the request, we can move forward...

.....in some states that allow temporary DLs and allow you to renew temporary DLs before the 90 days is up. Unfortunately because you were unable to get a temporary DL within the 90 days you have nothing to apply for or renew. You are out of status.
