This site has been so very helpful. I plan on filing my K1 visa next week for my fiance in Nigeria. I'm very nervous about it because everybody tells you different things to do. But honestly, coming to this site has equipped me with good information and the information from everyone seems to be consistant. One of my concerns is the proof of relationship part. We met back in 2003 and lost contact with each other but re-united through a friend in 2006. I went to see him again in 2007 and that's when he proposed to me. I obviously said "yes" and was ready to start filing when I got back to the US. My concern with the proof of relationship is that I only have a couple of e-mails from 2006 when we added each other to our yahoo IM and I have some e-mails dating from the beginning of Jan. 2007 and no e-mails from 2003. I failed to save everything. And as far as the phone calls, I ALWAYS used calling cards.....so I don't have phone bills. Does anyone think that will be sufficient enough to establish the relationship? I also have about 50-60 pictures of us. PLEASE HELP LOVELY COMMUNITY....THANKS!!!

Words of Mr. Bent [Chief CO of the Dominican Republic Emabssy]

Most of our applicants -- both legitimate and bogus -- typically bring pictures, phone cards, and money transfer receipts to the visa interview. We assume that any document we ask for can be produced in some form or another. That is why it is so helpful for both the American petitioner and the Dominican applicant to come together to the interview, so we can see how you interact and how much you know about each other.

We recommend that you bring evidence of the time you’ve spent together: all passports (or birth certificates) that you’ve used to enter and exit the country to visit each other, hotel receipts, and photographs of the two of you together over time.

To help your case, please print out and bring all your photographs to your interview, rather than leaving them at home, on your computer, or on a photo CD. For security reasons, we can’t put outside CDs, DVDs, or other electronic media into our government computers. If you met online at a dating site, it’s great if you have a copy of that personal profile on the website where you first met. If you keep in touch electronically, you can print out your emails over time.

Please note that the interview isn’t a “test.” We don’t expect people to have all dates and details memorized. Relax. If you are a legitimate couple, you should have no problem demonstrating that during the interview.

At this point, you have enough because you only need to show evidence of meeting within the past two years. Your boarding passes, receipts, passport stamps and pictures are sufficient for that.

Starting now, save your emails and yahoo chats and start using a telephone service that provides call records. You'll need these and any other evidence at the time of the interview. That's when you show evidence of an ongoing bonafide relationship.

I want to add that not all Countries allow the couple to both be present at interview. Check on Nigeria specifically for their procedures.

For the application your filing now you only need send couple emails, couple message anyway, the thing you are telling them now is that you actually met, so the pictures will be good but then again you only send a few with the application. The proving of the relationship will come at the interview...also i believe some people do get records from some of the calling card companies. Address how and when you first met where it is asked for that information and explain the time apart etc.....then address the last meeting.

Hello,

as far as the calling cards, keep those and keep a copy of the phone bill. It will show the access number you use to get on to the calling card network. All I did was underline the acces number so they could see it. And as for proof, you can never have too much.

Keep the e-mails, any travel documents, letters with envelopes you have sent, records of packages and so on. Any recipts with expences you have incurred, tickets, travel tags etc. It all adds up.

Good luck.

wow, we have already recieved our Biometrics appointments. It is only 2 1/2 weeks away.

It seems to be moving rather quickly.

This is great.

Hello,

Based on the information you have provided thus far....... you appear to have sufficient data to at least file the petition on behalf of your fiancé. You just need to file and organize it along with the form I-129F. For primary evidence your flight itinerary, boarding pass, ticket airline receipt, baggage tags provided you have not discarded them will serve as proof that you've both been together w/in two years prior to filing. Secondary evidence can be pictures, IM, emails, snail mails, cards - birthday e.t.c and phone records. The phone cards will not cut it. You will need to purchase other telecommunication cards that allow for itemized phone call logs. Such as Yahoo voice, www.pingo.com. www.tel3advantage.com. Also, advises given above are all very good follow them and you will be successful. I wish you much success on your journey. Cheers.

The most important part right now is to prove that you have met (but DO send the e-mails and other stuff you have, too). From now on, save EVERYTHING. And get a phone card that keeps call details. I use one from www.zaptel.com.

And if you find out that it's best for the fiance to attend the interview in Nigeria, let me know so I can plan my trip to Lagos
