The one I got on Wednesday had Trump's signature, and they also played a video of Trump welcoming the new citizens. And this was in Oakland, CA... that said, they did have 1000+ people there, so they probably go through the welcome letters pretty quickly!

I won't tell my wife about that. She might postpone submitting her citizenship application another couple years. Just curious: where is the ceremony held in Oakland? Surprised there were that many people!

I wish I'd viewed/gotten something from either President during my oath ceremony in Oct 2018---would have been a nice keepsake to have---but yeah, I would have preferred one from Obama if I'd had the choice.

And we have first amendment rights to call individual 1 whatever we want. Like the carrot caliphate.

No need to get riled up though, as I said, we are just at the opposite end of the political spectrum. Not a bad thing 🙂

Agreed.

But next time you are in front of a federal judge call him/her names..like f**k u, I'm exercising my 1st amendment rights.

Makes no sense. Why would I or anyone say that to a judge? How is being in front of a judge for immigration hearing/naturalization ceremony anyway scalable to the freedom to hold political beliefs and opinions of the the person holding the highest office, and exercising that right in a public forum?

Yeah it's not the same.

There you have it. 1st amendment has limitations.

Yes, the same way we can't scream fire in a crowded theater.

No idea what your point is since I'm not limited in calling him douchebag in chief.

My point is u can't scream 1st amendment any time you want. My point still stands.

And again with your false equivalence of giving Twitler a name being the same as swearing at a federal judge.

Nobody is screaming 1st ammendment rights. Try glean some context, this guy said I shouldn't call Cheeto Benito names and I'm saying that it's OK to do so. That isn't the same as saying you shouldn't swear at a judge. Well no sh*t

Lol. What false equivalency? You said:

"And we have first amendment rights to call individual 1 whatever we want. Like the carrot caliphate"

And I actually agreed. And I'm basically saying don't be fooled by the 1st amendment because it has still has limitations so you can't allude to it everytime.

Ok. Don't swear at federal judge...just call him names when you are before him and still won't be OK. Perfectly understood the context; you are the one not able to grasp the the education you are getting.

Paramount Theatre in Oakland. It's just across the street from the nearest 19th St Oakland BART station exit, between 20th and 21st on Broadway. Nice place. As calberry pointed out, though, parking's annoying.

Ok last post on this. The OP just pointed out something interesting and we shouldn't derail it any further.

Your false equivalency:

Calling Drumpf names ≠ Swearing at a judge.

I made it patently obvious there's a difference instead of you drawing the equivalence as "cautionary tale" of what I shouldn't do. Don't need your high and mighty attitude and straw-man arguments.

Yep, very familiar with the venue. Thanks for the info!

But calling Drumpf names = Calling a federal judge names? Correct?

Again, I'm not telling you what you should and shouldn't do; that's your prerogative. But your first amendment rights won't rescue you in all situations. My point still holds.

This was such a warm and fuzzy thread when it first started..

Hopefully OP is off celebrating their new citizenship.

I know! I was just happy with the nice surprise. :) And I thought that it was funny too! anyway, I tried to add more pics but I guess I'm only allowed 71kb after such a huge jpeg file.

Besides the warm letter, I got a certificate holder, pamphlet of the declaration of independence and the Constitution of the United States, and the booklet 'The Citizen's Almanac. '

For today's fiery but (!) healthy exchange, please refer to an excerpt on page 3 of the booklet, esp the last sentence.

Freedom to express yourself.

'Freedom of expression'  includes several individual rights. It includes freedom of speech, freedom to peaceably assemble, and the freedom to petition the government for a redress of grievances. In a representative democracy, individual beliefs and opinions are important to our national dialogue and necessary to maintain a responsible citizenry. Americans can speak and act as they wish as long as it does not endanger or obstruct another's freedom of expression in the process.
