I believe it was either Rio to Paris, or Sao Paolo to Paris.  I saw it on Air Disasters a while ago, and essentially the autopilot flew the plane into the ocean at least according to the best swag.

Flight 447, where the autopilot disengaged because of frozen/blocked pitot tubes and the pilots couldn't understand why freaked out and crashed the airplane?

Haven't read it yet, but that's clearly pilot error.

Here's a lengthy, technical-but-understandable analysis, including first-hand input from a pilot and a retired aircraft-engine engineer:

https://www.rushlimbaugh.com/daily/2019/03/14/my-investigation-into-the-boeing-737-max-8-and-max-9-problem/

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Yes, it seemed to be a case of too much reliance on automation.  If you want to research another one where the pilots did a phenomenal bit of flying under adverse conditions, look up NW 85.  A 747 from Detroit to Narita that experienced a hard over lower rudder over the Bering Sea.

That’s a good start, but Rush really screwed it up when he talked about the Airbus 20, which does not exist.  Me thinks he was referencing the A320, which holds more pax than the 737s (until the MAXs came along).

Didn’t get to read the engineer’s part, will do that in a while.

Overall, a sloppy read on Rush's analysis.  He should really stick to politics.  But I guess anyone can sit back and armchair it.  Here's hoping the data comes back with enough definition that positive changes can be made.  I'll be surprised if a large portion of the blame does not end up on the pilots.

Looks more and more like MCAS issues:

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/03/15/business/boeing-ethiopian-crash.html

2.5° up is hardly a cause for concern, if the pilots respond properly and disengage MCAS and fly the plane as they are trained to do, right?  MCAS takes 9 seconds to move the stabilizers if memory serves.  I know it's not fast.  A simple thing for trained pilots to react to.

But the FO had a whole 200 hours of flight time.  Compared to the 1500 hours required in the US.

Have they specified if the 200 hours is on the MAX or just in general?

According to NB2s link...

"It has been reported that the first officer on that flight had only 200 hours of flight experience, a small fraction of the minimum in the U.S., and an absurdly low amount for someone in the cockpit of a jet airliner,” he wrote.

sounds like total time to me.

In a related note, Russian aircraft builder Irkut just flight tested it's third MC-21-300.

It's supposed to compete with the Boeing 737 MAX 8 and the Airbus A320-neo.

Slated to enter service next year.

Reminds me of my first trip to Russia more than 15 years ago.  Flew Delta to Moscow, and then a small regional airlines from there to Rostov-on-Don.  Had to use the old Terminal 1 at Sheremetyevo airport which was very interesting to say the least.  Took a bus out to the plane sitting on the tarmac.  It was a very old Russian TU-154, identical to Boeings 727.  As I am walking up the stairs to enter the plane, I looked down and saw the plane had very worn tires with cord showing.  When I got in and finally found my seat, I noticed the inside had been repainted....with a brush, and not done very well.  I was sure my life was going to end with a crash of this ancient Russian aircraft.  As I recall it seemed like the pilot acted like he was flying a MIG in combat.
