That's good! How long did it take for the documents to be reviewed? We submitted my mom’s documents more that 3 weeks ago, no feedback yet.

It took us 6 months because the NVC rejected the documents twice.

It kept rejecting both my parents birth certificate and their marriage certificate because it was not coming from a recognized agency.

What did you do? I’ve been using my birth certificate for every paperworks I’ve done till I became a citizen. I don’t get it.

Where are you from? I'm originally from Peru and the exact same thing happened to me. When I was getting my residency I used that same birth certificate which was accepted. Now with my parents visa I used the same birth certificate and they also rejected it. What I had to do was have my parent go to RENIEC which is a government agency that seals birth certificates and marriage certificates for its citizens. Since my birth certificate and my parents certificate was issued in a very small town they were not recognized by the NVC. That is when they when to RENIEC to let them know about the problem which the agency stamped all the certificates with their seal. Plus I'm not sure if this was helpful but when they received those sealed documents they went to the office of international relations and they stamped another paper onto that which states that the document is valid to use outside of the country.

I hope this explanation was helpful if you have other questions please let me know.

6 months? That’s a long time. I waited for I-130 approval for 12 months and was hoping  the second phase would be much faster.

The NVC process can be faster if they don't keep rejecting your documents. It usually takes two months in the NVC process.
