Trying to register on my country's US consulate site to book my interview date, and it's asking me for my DS260 number, although in the details it tells me to fill in the DS160. ????

If you are a K-1 petitioner, your beneficiary should be completing the DS-160.  DS-260 is for immigrant visa recipients.  After completing the DS-160 online, you will get a confirmation page with a number on it.  Print the confirmation page.  You need the  number to give to the bank where you will be paying for the visa fee.  After the fee is paid, wait a couple of days, then log back in.  You have to register to create an account online.  A calendar should open up for you to schedule the interview.  The medical appointment can be scheduled also.  Medical needs to be done first before going to the interview.  This is just a short version of what to do prior to trying to scheduling an interview.  Good luck to you & I hope this helps.

If you filed for fiance petition (k-1) & you did not get married first, yes you must complete the DS-160 form.  Hope this helps.  There is a lot more info here on VJ.
